Cambridge Calling! 🌸🩰
Hello, darlings!
It’s Emma here, and today’s post is coming to you straight from the lovely city of Cambridge. It’s post number 9327 for you lovelies! And trust me, it’s been a right royal treat.
The sun was shining (even if it was a bit chilly) as I took the train up to Cambridge this morning. You can’t beat a good old-fashioned train journey. Something about chugging through the countryside on the tracks just feels so romantic. Of course, I made sure I wore my pink tutu - pink always brings out the sunshine, you know! And as always, I paired it with my comfy ballet flats (a girl’s gotta look good even when she's travelling!).
As I stepped off the train, I was hit by the quintessential Cambridge vibe - cobblestone streets, grand old buildings, and the aroma of freshly baked pastries (yes, my stomach went whee at the thought of cake!). Cambridge is like a step back in time - a historical gem in the heart of the English countryside. It felt like something out of a fairytale, and of course, any good fairy story has to involve tutus, right?!
First on my agenda: Cambridge's legendary ballet classes. I love ballet; I live for those perfectly balanced leaps, elegant spins, and of course, the majestic tutus that accompany it. There's nothing quite like finding your center, feeling the strength of your core, and expressing yourself through movement. Today's class had some beautiful dancers who even surpassed my usual level of plie perfection - so inspiring! We finished with a routine to “Swan Lake" which of course was divine - all the graceful pirouettes, delicate port de bras, and sweeping arabesques made my heart sing.
Afterwards, I felt the need for a wee bit of a treat - a little indulgence for my hard work. Now, who else in the world finds a little cake after ballet the ultimate form of pampering? I've never understood why people go to fancy spas - a delicious pastry in a quaint coffee shop? You'll find me there, thank you very much! My choice? A pink strawberry macaroon – obviously! It was pretty, pink and delicious, and definitely lived up to the high standards of my ballerina lifestyle!
The afternoon was dedicated to experiencing some of the ballet magic Cambridge had to offer. My little ballet-loving heart was overjoyed to be visiting the ADC Theatre (that's "Amateur Dramatic Club" for all you newcomers!), famous for its passionate, and incredibly talented student performers. And did you know? Their next show is "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland!" A delightful combination of theatre, music, and ballet? You know I’m gonna be there with my front row seat.
This city's energy is infectious - all that youthful energy, excitement and a thirst for the arts. As I strolled around the town centre, I stopped by The Cambridge University Library for a little dose of culture and some book inspiration. Now, if anyone knows me, they know I love a good ballet book or a fairytale with a touch of pink – especially in the lead character’s tutu. Sadly, I couldn't bring any back with me - they are rather hefty and not the easiest to carry on a horse... but luckily, there are plenty of other beautiful things to fill up a carriage or a saddlebag.
One thing Cambridge really gets right is the whole wildlife scene - ducks, swans, geese - they all roam around the town centre with no fear whatsoever! In fact, one particularly brave swan had the nerve to attempt to steal my bag, claiming it as his own - he obviously didn't know it held the most precious treasure in the world... my sparkly pink ballet shoes!
Cambridge has such a unique charm that you can't help but fall in love with it. Between the captivating architecture, the cobblestone streets and the quaint little shops, I felt transported to a different era, and I absolutely adored every minute of it!
Before my train journey back to my beloved Derbyshire, I treated myself to some more of Cambridge’s iconic delights - a slice of cherry cheesecake with a handful of those colourful rainbow macarons for the road! Oh, how I love indulging in these little pleasures, especially when I can share them with all you lovely pink-tutu fans!
If you ever find yourself wanting a taste of history, a dash of charm and a lot of ballerina inspiration, then I urge you to come and visit this magical city. And who knows, you might even spot me in my pink tutu, making a quick cameo on the banks of the River Cam, as I practice some pirouettes on a bright, sunny day.
Don't forget, my darlings! Get yourselves into a tutu, and maybe a pretty pink dress for the ultimate ballerina chic, then hop on a train (or a horse, if you're feeling daring!) and visit Cambridge. It'll be a treat for your eyes, your soul and definitely your inner ballet fan!
Keep shining, my lovelies! And as always, stay beautiful!
