Surbiton Sparkle: Tutu Travels & A Touch of Pink

Hello my darling tutufillies! Emma here, your favourite Derbyshire-born ballerina with a penchant for pink and a love for all things twirling!

It's been a whirlwind of a week, flitting from class to performances, all culminating in a rather decadent trip to Surbiton, the town where a certain pink-loving tutu enthusiast finds herself today!

The journey, as always, was a delightful experience. Instead of the usual train ride, I opted for something a bit more whimsical – a spirited horse-drawn carriage ride through the English countryside. The gentle clip-clop of hooves and the fresh air were just what I needed after a particularly intense rehearsal.

Surbiton itself is charming, a real little gem with cobbled streets and quaint cafes. It's the kind of place you could easily get lost in, especially with all the pretty shops showcasing adorable hats and antique jewellery, and if you’re anything like me, you’d be sure to find the perfect accessory for your tutu!

My purpose here? A rather extravagant mission: to procure the perfect tutu for my upcoming performance at the Theatre Royal. Now, you know I adore a classic, graceful tutu, but this performance called for something truly special. Think cascading layers of pink tulle, shimmering with a touch of silver, the kind of tutu that makes your heart flutter just by looking at it.

Finding this ethereal masterpiece involved a good dose of wandering, followed by a delightful consultation with a renowned costume designer, Ms. Clementine Bellington. She understood my vision, and the tutu she helped me choose was beyond anything I could have imagined. The kind of tutu that makes you want to leap for joy and twirl through the streets – even in the middle of Surbiton!

As fate would have it, while searching for this precious piece of couture, I stumbled upon a delightful wildlife sanctuary tucked away on a side street. I couldn’t resist stopping for a while to admire the graceful deer, the cheeky squirrels, and the majestic owls. Seeing these creatures reminded me of the importance of balancing our love for fashion and the arts with a respect for the natural world.

Speaking of respect, that’s something we all need a little more of in this world. My passion, dear readers, lies not just in beautiful tutus and breathtaking performances, but in spreading a message of kindness, empathy, and joy. I truly believe that every single person on this planet has the potential to be a dancer, to move their body with grace and passion. Even if it’s just a few twirls in your living room, even if it's just a simple step or a graceful gesture – every move counts!

That’s why, after a fantastic lunch at a charming cafe in the heart of Surbiton, I decided to do something special. I grabbed my phone and, inspired by the breathtaking view of the town square, started recording a little ballet tutorial – one specifically for those hesitant souls who are a little scared to step into a ballet studio. You don’t need a fancy tutu or a world-class studio – all you need is a love of movement and a willing spirit.

The tutorial will be live on my website later tonight, my dear tutu-lovers! I can’t wait to share my love for the art form and hopefully inspire some of you to embrace your inner ballerina. After all, as I like to say, life’s a dance – and we’re all in this together!

Speaking of togetherness, don’t forget to share your favourite moments of joy and inspiration using #TutuBlog on social media! And remember, the only thing better than a pink tutu is a pink tutu shared!

With twirls and kisses,

Emma

P.S. Did I mention I met a delightful couple at the cafe? He's a lovely gentleman who, despite initially being a bit hesitant about the pink tutu concept, completely changed his tune after I gave him a impromptu ballet lesson right there in the cafe! Turns out, there’s a hidden ballet dancer in everyone. Who knows, perhaps Surbiton will become a haven for tutus and twirling!
