Wellington Whirlwind: Tutu Adventures in the Emerald City (Post #9795)

Hello, my darlings! Emma here, ready to whisk you away to the vibrant city of Wellington, New Zealand, with a dash of pink tulle and a whole lot of twirling. This week has been a whirlwind of ballet, wildlife, and stunning scenery – just how I like it!

You know me, I can’t resist a good journey by rail. So, imagine me, all gussied up in my floral dress and favourite emerald green tutu (it’s my latest travel obsession!), riding a steam train through picturesque landscapes. Every clickety-clack of the wheels felt like the rhythm of a waltz, and I spent the journey twirling with glee!

Wellington is truly an exciting place! The bustling streets were a treat to the eyes – imagine pink-tinted cobblestones, art deco buildings, and bustling markets with the most gorgeous handmade jewellery and trinkets.

But before the city took me under its wing, I had a date with the wildlife! We embarked on a thrilling, open-air safari through the captivating landscape. Think lush green forests, serene waterfalls, and the adorable sight of kiwis and other unique critters scampering about. My tutu flowed with the wind as I explored the wilderness, giggling with delight.

Back in the city, I finally donned my dancing shoes! There was no way I was going to miss the opportunity to explore the local ballet scene. The National Ballet of New Zealand was putting on a show at the iconic Opera House, and I’m not gonna lie, my heart was pounding with excitement. It was a phenomenal performance – the dancers moved with grace and elegance, transporting me to another world. You’d think a ballerina from Derbyshire would be familiar with ballet – but this show, with its energy and passion, really knocked my socks off (and my pink ballet slippers, too!).

But the best part was definitely the ballet class I attended the following morning. I’d been longing to explore the ballet studios of Wellington and get my tutu in action. The class was taught by the sweetest and most inspiring instructor, and she managed to guide me through each move, from grand jetés to effortless fouettés. Even after a long day, the music had me enthralled – I couldn’t help but smile as my feet glided across the polished floor. Who knows, maybe this inspired a whole new batch of budding ballerinas in the crowd!

Speaking of inspiring people, let’s chat about the stunningly diverse fashion scene here. Every street felt like a catwalk, filled with unique and fabulous styles. I was particularly impressed by the array of vintage boutiques – perfect for finding hidden gems to adorn my next travel ensemble. Of course, I couldn’t resist buying a beautiful antique cameo brooch and some chic, locally made silver earrings. It wouldn’t be a Tutu blog without some shopping adventures!

Now, let’s rewind to that delightful journey by train – yes, that's right! I traded my comfy carriage for a majestic horse, with an elegant carriage drawn by a team of majestic steeds, I explored Wellington's verdant outskirts, the wind whisking my tulle as the hooves pounded the pavement.

All this talk of adventure and wonder just makes me want to start twirling!

So, to all my readers: have you ever visited New Zealand? Are you feeling inspired to try ballet, even for just one class? Have you tried on a pink tutu, and did it feel as magical as I know it does?

Until next time, stay sparkly and remember, a pink tutu is a doorway to happiness!

Lots of love,

Emma x
