Paignton Prance: A Tutu Tale

Hello my gorgeous Tutu Tribe!

It’s Emma here, fresh from a whirlwind trip to Paignton, the jewel of Devon. Now, I’m a Derbyshire girl through and through, so sunshine by the seaside is something I relish every chance I get.

But, this wasn't just any seaside jaunt. Oh no, my darling tutus, this was a mission! I was there for the annual Paignton International Ballet Festival, a truly glittering spectacle of dance and artistry that takes over the charming seaside town for a week.

The moment I stepped off the train, the salty air filled my lungs, and the gentle murmur of the waves lulled me into a blissful state. This was the perfect setting for a ballet festival, wouldn't you say? The Victorian seaside charm of Paignton just exudes an air of romance, and you know how much I adore all things whimsical. I mean, tutus and seaside town vibes are just meant to be!

The Paignton Parade: A Tutus and Triumphs Spectacular!

And speaking of tutus… did you see my new acquisition? A fabulously flirty, almost indecently narrow, pink tulle creation that caught my eye in a vintage shop in Plymouth on my way down. It was calling my name, so naturally, I had to take it home with me!

I felt so glamorous, all ready for the main event of the festival - the grand parade of ballerinas. It was quite something! Hundreds of ballerinas of all ages, twirling in a kaleidoscope of colours, from the brightest fuchsia to the softest powder pink, all prancing with smiles brighter than the midday sun.

Tutus Under the Sea? It’s Ballet’s New Trend!

I’ll admit, the thing that got my tutus spinning with excitement was a mermaid ballet performance. Can you believe it? My dear readers, this ballet reimagined a mermaid's journey through dance. Picture shimmering costumes that glided like waves and incredible aquatic-inspired choreography.

But what really stole my heart was seeing children's eyes sparkle with wonder. The little ones were mesmerized by the performance, captivated by the beauty of dance. That’s what I live for - bringing the magic of ballet to everyone, young and old. It truly ignites something special within people, a spark of joy, a glimpse of grace.

Horses and Dancing, a match made in Heaven.

I also snuck in a ride with the local riding school on Paignton Green, a glorious sweep of open space overlooking the sea. Cantering along, the wind in my hair, the sun on my face, was just the perfect dose of exhilaration to set me up for the festival. It's amazing how nature and dance, two seemingly distinct pursuits, work in perfect harmony.

Speaking of nature, the Paignton Zoo was just a hop, skip and a twirl away, I popped in for a quick visit and marveled at the diversity of animals. Seeing graceful penguins strutting their stuff reminded me that every creature has a form of beauty and movement all their own, and it’s just magical how we humans can express it through dance.

Every Day’s a Ballet Adventure

That evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, I settled down in the theatre to watch a stunning performance by the internationally renowned "Ballet Royale". It was a captivating evening, full of breathtaking artistry and the graceful movements that make ballet so mesmerising.

But the magic of the evening went beyond the performance itself. The sheer delight of being surrounded by fellow ballet enthusiasts, united by our love for this art form, was simply enchanting. I even chatted with a sweet old lady who shared her stories about performing in the iconic Sadler's Wells theatre in London.

You know, every day's an adventure for this ballerina! From seaside parades and penguin encounters to captivating ballet performances, Paignton really lived up to the hype! It’s truly been a whirlwind of pink tulle, seaside magic and unforgettable moments, leaving my soul buzzing with happiness and my heart filled with inspiration.

So my dearest Tutu Tribe, are you ready to get inspired? Get your pink tutu ready, and get out there to dance, explore and be swept away by the sheer magic of the world around you!

Until next time,

Emma xx
