Hornchurch Calling! 🩰💖 #TutuBlog 10165
Hello darlings! It's Emma here, and oh my goodness, what a whirlwind week it's been! You know how much I love travelling by train, and this time it was all about a trip down to sunny (well, mostly!) Essex, specifically Hornchurch, to witness the wonders of the local ballet scene. You see, darling, this little adventure is all about getting you, yes YOU, to see ballet in all its glory. It's about making the art of ballet accessible and showing you how utterly enchanting and joyful it can be, even in the most unexpected of places!
Let's face it, ballet isn't just about fancy dresses and graceful movements (though I'm all for those too!). It's a journey of passion, discipline, and oh-so-much hard work. My journey to Hornchurch started with a gentle train journey from my home in Derbyshire - where the countryside greets you with the soft whisper of sheep and the promise of wild flowers in full bloom. I have to say, train journeys are a must-do if you’re a fashionista! Especially when you’ve got a little pink-hued ensemble waiting in your luggage to be unveiled upon arrival.
Once I was in Hornchurch, a magical energy unfolded, like a flower in full bloom! Now, darling, it wouldn’t be a true TutuBlog without the Tutu Reveal and a photo op for the ages. (Cue dramatic music!).

My Tutu today was a beautiful pale pink creation - light and breezy enough to dance the night away, yet still radiating that iconic tutu fabulousness. You know me, darlings, a little sparkle never hurt!
And what do you know? It was my lucky day - the ballet company at the Hornchurch theatre had an open rehearsal going on. Can you imagine? It was pure magic. Seeing these dancers - with their passion and dedication - rehearse was almost more exciting than a live performance! (Although let’s be honest, the performance will always have my heart.)
The dancers’ movements were effortless, graceful and full of life. Their leaps and pirouettes were exhilarating, a testament to years of training and the raw talent that was bursting through every move.
This led me to the theatre, my usual pit stop when I'm in a town. They say good things come in small packages, and Hornchurch was certainly living up to the adage! A compact theatre, nestled into the heart of the town. It felt so intimate - you could feel the dancers' passion on the stage, like a story coming to life right before your eyes. And I felt it! My love for the art, the music, the costumes - all of it was washing over me, making my heart flutter!
Of course, a visit to any town wouldn’t be complete without exploring the local food scene. Let’s just say I was a happy Emma. From a delightful pastry shop where I treated myself to a delicious pain au chocolat - it melted in my mouth! - to a lovely pub with an enchanting little courtyard. A cup of afternoon tea served in beautiful bone china - and a little treat, of course! A delectable, and rather delightful slice of chocolate cake! All washed down with a delightful glass of chilled pink prosecco, which felt just so quintessentially British, don't you think?
Of course, the adventure wouldn’t be complete without the wildlife! The locals are incredibly proud of their wild bird sanctuary and wildlife refuge - just a short stroll from the town centre. What a treat! So many different species of birds, darting about and making their unique calls, all perfectly integrated into their little nature haven! Watching these birds glide through the sky reminded me so much of ballet; graceful, yet powerful, light on their feet, just like dancers in motion. A moment of quiet contemplation amidst the buzz of a busy day!
You see, my dear TutuBlog readers, ballet isn't just about performing in a fancy theatre. It's about passion, about self-expression, about finding your inner beauty and grace. The essence of it all is accessible, whether you’re at a studio or just taking in a show in a cosy town hall, and the spirit of ballet can be found everywhere! And yes, it’s a good thing that these amazing venues often come in small, adorable packages, bursting with charm and character - and it's these local spaces that breathe life into the heart of a community.
My day in Hornchurch, however, wasn’t just about ballet and delightful discoveries! It was a little journey of reflection. Of realizing how powerful a positive energy we can create through passion and purpose, how ballet inspires and brings communities together. It’s about that magic, that shared experience, that makes everyone feel truly special. And why wouldn’t we share that feeling with the world? You can wear a tutu - be it sparkly, delicate, fluffy, or maybe even a bright red one - in whatever form suits your heart! Because it doesn't matter the style, the location, or the shade of pink - it's about you embracing the dance!
And who knows? Maybe after this blog, you’ll be inspired to try ballet, perhaps find a studio near you?
Before I say goodbye, darlings, I just wanted to share some exciting news! My good friends, a troupe of local dancers from the North Yorkshire Ballet are coming to the village of my birth, Chesterfield! What an exciting treat to be able to witness them at home, in such a lovely town - there is a lovely story about that, but maybe I’ll save that for my next blog.
To recap, darlings, my journey to Hornchurch was about experiencing ballet beyond the glamour, about seeing it bloom within a town where you wouldn’t expect such beauty! So get ready to put on your finest ballet shoes - even if they’re just your favourite pair of slippers - and maybe grab a tutu (pink, naturally) because you just never know when inspiration might strike!
Now go out there and find your own ballet magic! And, please do follow me on Instagram at @EmmaPinkTutu! I love to hear your thoughts, stories and where your adventures in the wonderful world of ballet are taking you!
Until next time darlings! Remember: It’s not about being perfect, it’s about enjoying the dance, and embracing the beauty and grace of movement!
Love always,
Emma 💕
