Tutu Travels: Spalding Splendour (Post #10265) 🩰💖

Hey darlings! It’s Emma, your resident pink tutu-clad ballerina, reporting live from the charming market town of Spalding! Yes, this Derbyshire girl swapped the Peak District hills for the flat Lincolnshire plains, and you know what? It’s utterly delightful! I’m embracing this adventure with open arms (and an extra-fluffy tutu, naturally).

Speaking of tutus, this one is a special one – a European-inspired dream in blush pink, with a cascade of layered tulle that practically begs you to twirl. I spotted it at a delightful vintage shop in Derby – what can I say, a girl's gotta stay true to her style! And it felt just perfect for this quintessentially English town.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. "Emma, Spalding? Isn't that, like, in the middle of nowhere?". But trust me, there's a certain charm to this laid-back corner of the UK. Imagine quaint cobbled streets lined with antique shops, charming tearooms with floral china, and a friendly atmosphere that makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. It’s a welcome change from the fast-paced city life.

A Railway Romp

The journey here was a pure delight! Nothing beats the nostalgic magic of travelling by train. The landscape unfolded in a kaleidoscope of green fields, quaint villages, and soaring wind turbines - a scenery so quintessential British, you practically expect a red double-decker bus to pop out of nowhere! I couldn't resist catching a glimpse of the rolling countryside, peeking through the train window like a child looking out at a new world, mesmerised by the ever-changing landscape.

I have to confess, the moment I stepped off the train into the bustling little market square, I was absolutely smitten. There's something utterly romantic about small market towns like Spalding, don’t you think? They just ooze that charming, old-world ambience.

Discovering a Little Ballet Magic

You can’t visit Spalding without a visit to The South Holland Centre – their performance programme is truly impressive! The venue is beautifully restored, with ornate ceilings and warm lighting, and the air hums with anticipation.

Last night, I was treated to a delightful evening of ballet, with the local dance company presenting an eclectic mix of contemporary and classical pieces. Seeing such talented young performers take to the stage ignited a flame within me, a reminder of my own dance journey and the joy of sharing this passion. It’s moments like these, watching the dancers pour their hearts out onto the stage, that make me feel truly alive.

Of course, no trip to a town steeped in dance history would be complete without a spot of ballet class myself. A little research revealed a fantastic dance studio hidden away on a quiet side street. With a warm welcome and a playlist of all the classics, I spent an afternoon honing my pirouettes and perfecting those elegant arabesques. It’s remarkable how dancing, regardless of where you are in the world, has a way of uniting everyone.

Pink Tutu Adventures

As you all know, my love for the colour pink is deeply rooted in my being. But my real love affair is with tutus! There's something magical about wearing a pink tutu - it evokes a sense of childlike wonder, and makes me feel like I can conquer the world! It's not just a piece of clothing - it’s a symbol of confidence, creativity, and pure joy.

As I explored Spalding's charming shops, I realised how effortlessly my pink tutu melded into the town's laid-back charm. Even the locals seemed to be drawn to the whimsical sparkle of my twirling dress. Imagine my surprise when I bumped into a group of young girls giggling and pointing at my pink tutu! One of them even whispered "I wish I could wear one like that!". Right then and there, I realised what my life's work is all about - getting every girl, every woman, every single person to embrace their inner ballerina!

More Than Just a Tutu

Spalding’s unique appeal goes beyond its pretty facades. There’s a real love for wildlife here! I stumbled upon a gorgeous nature reserve right in the heart of the town - perfect for a morning stroll with my dog, Freddie. We had a lovely time spotting ducks, geese, and the odd shy hare peeking out from behind the reeds. This little nature sanctuary provided a calming and tranquil space, away from the bustle of the town centre.

Freddie loved it - as you can imagine, he thinks every adventure should be an adventure he gets to be part of, with an extra large amount of sniffing along the way. Freddie loves the outdoors almost as much as I do - except when it comes to swimming - but even then, a gentle nudge, and the thrill of a fetch in the river will usually make him jump in. He's a very good dog. We all have to learn our individual strengths and weaknesses.

Horsepower in Spalding

I can’t tell you how much I adore horseback riding - the thrill of the wind in your hair, the connection with a noble animal - it’s a true joy. Spalding didn't disappoint, offering a stable just outside of town, ready to help you experience the thrill of horseback riding. With my bright pink riding gear and a friendly horse named "Misty" (yes, I couldn’t have imagined a better name), I explored the surrounding countryside with a grin on my face and a twinkle in my eyes. There is just something magical about a gentle ride on a summer evening.

As my Spalding adventure comes to a close, I’m leaving with a heart full of memories and a newfound appreciation for this quiet little gem of a town. I can’t wait to share more tutu travel stories with you, and who knows, perhaps we’ll all find ourselves donning a pink tutu and taking a trip to Spalding soon!

Until next time, my lovelies, let your pink tutus shine bright!

Lots of love,

Emma www.pink-tutu.com
