Melton Mowbray: Where Ballet Dreams Came True (Post #10300)

Hello darlings! Emma here, your resident pink tutu enthusiast, back with another blog post, fresh from a whirlwind trip to Melton Mowbray. It's hard to believe that it's been just over 24 hours since I touched down in this charming little market town, and already, it feels like I've lived a lifetime of memories.

As a Derbyshire girl at heart, you wouldn't think Melton Mowbray would hold much appeal for me. But I'm always up for an adventure, and the call of a weekend in a new town, with my latest tutu design in tow, was irresistible!

The journey, of course, had to be a classic Emma affair. No planes or cars for me – I swapped the mundane for the magical, hopping aboard a train for a scenic ride through the English countryside. I do love a good train journey. The rhythmic click-clack of the wheels and the views from the window always put me in the mood for creative thinking. This trip, in particular, inspired my newest ballet design - think graceful swans in a whimsical meadow with pops of the most delicate pink. I’m going to call it ‘Swan in Bloom’. What do you think, darlings?

Upon arriving in Melton Mowbray, I was struck by the town's quaint charm. With cobblestone streets, cosy cafes, and an abundance of independent shops, it's the perfect destination for a girl who appreciates the finer things in life (and by 'finer things', I obviously mean handcrafted pastries, delicate vintage finds and a touch of pink magic, duh!).

Speaking of pink magic, Melton Mowbray also has a secret up its sleeve: The Melton Mowbray Ballet Theatre. How could I not visit, especially after my grand tutuing journey to Nottingham for the International Dance Festival a few weeks back? I was practically levitating! This historic theatre, steeped in history and the aroma of warm popcorn, has been showcasing the magic of dance for generations.

Stepping into the theatre's warm embrace, I felt an immediate connection with its history. I imagined the countless ballerinas who had graced its stage before me, all those tutus and sparkles dancing before my very eyes. This is what fuels my passion! My tutu and I had to join in.

As luck would have it, they had an open class going on that very day, hosted by none other than the amazing Dame Deborah Grant! A proper dream come true! A chance to learn from the absolute best and immerse myself in the ballet world. Talk about an incredible experience! Dame Deborah's teaching is inspiring! We practised our plies, chassé and even tackled some arabesque. Even with all my dancing experience, there’s always something new to learn in ballet, so being taught by a legend like Dame Deborah, made it extra special. And my tutu, oh my darling tutu, it twirled and spun with such grace during that lesson, it almost became the star of the show. I mean, I just think tutus belong in every dance studio in the world!

After a blissful afternoon of ballet magic, I rewarded myself with a leisurely stroll through the town centre, soaking in the atmosphere. A quick pit stop at 'The Pink Petal', a sweet little shop brimming with vintage finds, had my heart soaring (I had to nab a dainty pink teacup to add to my collection, obvs!)

Of course, no trip to Melton Mowbray is complete without a taste of their legendary pork pies. They’re so buttery and savoury! As a wildlife enthusiast, my little heart just loves a bit of the good old ‘rural charm’, but it’s fair to say I found some extra-special ‘wildlife’ at The Horse and Groom Pub. They hosted a live folk band that was absolutely electrifying. A lot of local artists playing all the best classics and their original compositions – there was dancing and good food galore, it was magical. I swear, they looked at me funny when I tried to do a grand jeté during one of the sets but you have to remember my passion, darlings!

In conclusion, this Melton Mowbray trip has been the perfect blend of charming history, vibrant artistry, and a healthy dose of pink magic. If you're ever seeking a delightful escape from the hustle and bustle, I highly recommend putting Melton Mowbray on your list.

Oh, and while you’re here, let’s spread the tutu love. This is a mission of mine, darlings! I think we need a little bit more pink in our lives! Why not pick up your own tutu and bring your inner ballerina to life? Maybe a lovely pink number in the style of ‘Swan in Bloom’, just like the one I’ve designed?

Join me next week, where I’ll be showcasing ‘Swan in Bloom’ in the new post and I'll be sharing a delightful ballet-themed afternoon tea experience, plus some travel tips. Be sure to visit www.pink-tutu.com every day to see the latest in the pinkest world!

Until next time, dance with your hearts, darlings!
