Tutu Tales #10329: Leicester, Red Tutus & Railway Rambles
Hello, darlings! Emma here, back with another entry from my ever-spinning, ever-pink world. It's a blustery October day here in Derbyshire, but my heart is still basking in the sunshine of my recent trip to Leicester. I haven't been to this charming city for a while, and it certainly lived up to its reputation as a gem of the Midlands.
My trip was inspired by a special ballet performance - "The Red Shoes", a tale of ambition, passion, and of course, a very, very special pair of shoes. This particular production had a distinctly gothic edge, which I found absolutely fascinating. The sets were magnificent, the choreography utterly captivating, and the entire performance just took my breath away. Oh, and I might have fallen just a little bit in love with the principal dancer, a vision in red - both on and off the stage!
But before I talk more about the show, let me tell you about the journey itself. It was the most wonderfully vintage train ride, all polished wood and plush velvet seats, complete with the aroma of old paper and the faint hum of the engine. I'm utterly smitten with the railway – it allows you to soak up the scenery, relax and enjoy the journey just as much as the destination. It’s such a magical way to travel.
Leicester greeted me with open arms (and sunshine, much to my delight). I headed straight for my hotel, a sweet little boutique inn, decorated in a style that can only be described as “pink-tutu-chic.” I mean, they even had a floral print duvet cover with pink accents! How could I resist?
That evening, I was off to the theatre, adorned, naturally, in a gorgeous, scarlet tutu - a perfect homage to the “Red Shoes” production. You’ll find me frequently sporting tutus these days - whether I’m catching a show, attending a class or just going for a stroll through the park (though I might steer clear of the puddles on those occasions!). I love that these airy little dresses are such a fabulous fashion statement and can be paired with all kinds of outfits, be it a romantic floaty blouse, a bold leather jacket, or even a classic trench coat.
Anyway, back to the ballet. I have to admit, I shed a tear or two during “The Red Shoes” - there was just so much drama, and so much passion. I felt as though I was right on stage alongside the dancers, living their joy, their despair, and the thrill of every twirling pirouette.
But the day was not all about tutus and drama! Leicester offers such a delightful mix of old and new - from the bustling markets and the grand cathedral, to the vibrant art scene and the beautiful greenery of the parks. The next day, I indulged in a leisurely exploration of the city, stopping by the lovely art deco library for a moment of calm contemplation and visiting the city’s stunning museums. And of course, I finished the day with a delightful afternoon tea, complete with delicate pastries and fragrant Earl Grey tea - an absolute treat for the soul!
And because every good outing requires a touch of the extraordinary, I even went horseback riding on the outskirts of Leicester, a unique experience that gave me a fresh perspective on this beautiful town. Galloping through fields with the wind in my hair, wearing my fuchsia pink riding boots, was the ultimate expression of my inner-tutu-loving princess!
My time in Leicester was a whirlwind of culture, colour, and pure happiness. This city stole a piece of my heart, reminding me that life is a grand stage and every moment is a chance to perform and enjoy. And the best part of all? I left with a new found appreciation for the colour red. Red, my loves, is a strong and confident colour - not afraid to stand out.
But the truth is, all colours deserve their moment to shine - and pink, you guessed it, will always hold a special place in my heart. Maybe even more so now, with all the pink-tutu-inspired adventures I have in store.
Stay tuned for more exciting travel stories and fashionable frolics, because the only way to live is to live your life on stage, surrounded by your loved ones and your favorite tutus, of course. And while you’re at it, remember, there's nothing stopping you from wearing pink!
So, until next time, darlings, wear your smiles wide and your tutus even wider!
Love always,
Emma www.pink-tutu.com
