Paignton Calling! (Post #10420)
Hello my gorgeous tutu-loving lovelies! 🩰💖
It's Emma here, writing to you from the sun-kissed shores of Paignton, Devon! Can you believe it's January and I'm already feeling those seaside vibes? Well, it wouldn't be a proper trip without a little bit of pink wouldn't it? So, naturally, I'm rocking a brand new pink tutu with a delightful sprinkle of sequined butterflies! Honestly, the perfect accessory for exploring a seaside town.
This trip, however, wasn't just about the stunning scenery (though Paignton is a real charmer) - it was a pilgrimage, a dance odyssey, a celebration of all things ballet! Yes, my lovelies, I was lucky enough to snag tickets to the absolutely fabulous "Ballet on the Bay" show! I can't even begin to tell you how ecstatic I was! To think that my favourite art form was being celebrated right here in Paignton, of all places! The energy in the theatre was electric, and the performance was simply breathtaking. The dancers were like birds in flight, their movements graceful, powerful, and utterly mesmerising. I could have watched them forever!
Oh, and the costumes, darlings, the costumes! Every tutu, every shimmering bodice, every flowing scarf, was an explosion of colour and elegance. It was as if a rainbow had come to life and decided to grace the stage!
I’ve even been indulging in a spot of ballet myself! It wouldn't be a proper trip to Paignton without a little bit of ballet street wouldn't it? So, after an invigorating walk along the promenade, I discovered the most charming little dance studio just off the harbour. It was hidden away in a quaint, whitewashed building, with the scent of fresh lavender and old wood filling the air. The owner, a kind and friendly woman with a twinkle in her eye, welcomed me with open arms (and a pot of perfectly brewed tea). Turns out, the studio is a hidden gem, attracting ballet enthusiasts from all over Devon! It's become my little ballet haven!
And the best bit? I discovered a secret little vintage shop tucked away in the town! Now, my lovelies, this place was a treasure trove of forgotten wonders, just waiting to be brought back to life. Imagine rows of exquisite dresses and glittering costume pieces – you just know they were made for the stage! After much rummaging and squealing (let's be honest, I am a little bit like a magpie when it comes to pretty things!), I unearthed a vintage ballet outfit – an ivory silk tutu and a delicate embroidered bodice – perfect for my ballet street escapades. I just couldn’t leave it there!
Let's talk wildlife! As you know, I love to incorporate a little bit of nature into my adventures. So, this trip included a delightful stroll through Paignton Zoo! I’m always in awe of how majestic wildlife can be! And can we just take a moment to appreciate the giraffes? They are truly the most elegant creatures on this earth. Watching them stretch their necks and reach for leaves reminded me of ballet, their movements were just so effortless!
But don’t be mistaken, my lovelies. My love for the wildlife doesn’t end there! My absolute highlight was exploring the secret cove just off the harbour, a hidden beach that felt like something straight out of a fairytale. As I gazed at the gentle waves lapping at the shore, a pair of playful seals popped up their heads. We stood, for a moment, observing each other with mutual curiosity! It was magical, I couldn't have imagined a more delightful moment to conclude my time in Paignton!
Speaking of moments, I’ve been having the best time exploring the area. Who would’ve guessed there would be such incredible places so close to home? I feel so grateful that the train system is a viable mode of transport (much more eco-friendly than flying), and it allowed me to easily take this gorgeous, scenic journey to Devon! The sound of the train rattling along the tracks with the rhythmic tapping of the wheels and that intoxicating blend of scents - leather seats, old books, and that touch of steam… ah, pure magic!
However, on this trip, my mode of transport was not confined to just trains. Oh, no! You see, this adventure involved a dash of whimsy, and how could you possibly resist a chance to go horse riding?! So, I donned my (very pink) jodhpurs, and we trotted off through the lush, rolling hills of the South Devon countryside. Let me tell you, there is nothing more exhilarating than feeling the wind whip through your hair as you canter through fields!
I could have spent weeks in this captivating seaside haven but alas, I had to return to my little Derbyshire village and get back to my daily ballet classes (they really are essential for maintaining my grace, darling). Paignton, however, is most definitely staying with me in my heart, it’s a place where I can imagine a ballet performance taking place.
And so, my lovelies, I hope that you’ve enjoyed this little adventure. And who knows, maybe you’ll be inspired to don your own pink tutu (no matter the occasion!), take up ballet, or visit the captivating coastline of Devon for yourselves.
See you next time my dearest tutu-loving lovelies! Remember to check out the latest posts on my website www.pink-tutu.com and don’t forget to share your ballet adventures!
With a graceful twirl and a heart full of joy,
Emma x
