Good morning, my darlings! The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and I'm just bubbling over with excitement because...drumroll please... I'm in Salisbury!
Yep, you heard that right. This Derbyshire girl has swapped the Peak District for the rolling hills of Wiltshire. My trusty steed (not a horse, sadly, though I wouldn't say no to a good old-fashioned carriage ride) delivered me to this charming little town just a couple of hours ago. I’m staying in a gorgeous little B&B, all twinkly lights and floral wallpaper.
My mission this time? To immerse myself in the heart of this historic city, and of course, to wear a tutu fit for a queen! Now, I'm not talking about just any tutu. This little number is absolutely divine - think delicate tulle, a shimmering pink hue, and enough sparkle to rival a disco ball. I call her 'The Duchess' and she's absolutely stole the show in my suitcase.
First stop: Salisbury Cathedral. I swear, the spire of that place just goes on forever. I spent a good hour gazing upwards, completely mesmerized. The intricate stonework, the breathtaking arches, it felt like stepping into a fairytale. I may or may not have twirled in my pink tutu in the cathedral square, a little homage to the grand architectural ballet of the building. Just me and 'The Duchess', living our best lives.
Later, I popped into a sweet little bakery with the most charming proprietor. She, a darling old soul, immediately declared that my tutu was “most lovely,” and gave me the biggest, warmest smile. Turns out she used to do ballet herself, in her youth! We had a right good natter about barre classes and pliés over a slice of delectable lemon cake, my afternoon tea complete with pink sprinkles.
Now, you know me - my wanderlust isn’t content with just one city landmark. So, after tea, I hopped on a little train that took me to Stonehenge. The moment I saw those magnificent standing stones, all those thousands of years old, I felt a connection to the earth, a pulse of energy flowing through me. Imagine - those stones were here, enduring all that time, while humanity was just learning to walk. Honestly, I'm convinced they were designed as some kind of giant, ancient ballet stage. The way those stones stand so proudly, like dancers frozen in mid-step. I swear, I could practically hear the rhythmic music of the cosmos resonating through the air, calling us all to a magnificent performance.
Later on, I visited the Salisbury Museum, a delightful little gem filled with local history and art. I even found a lovely old lithograph of a dancer performing a ballet routine, her tutu looking awfully similar to ‘The Duchess'. It was like a little ballet time capsule, proof that the love for dance and all things frilly has existed for ages!
After my historical adventures, I finished off the day with a scrumptious dinner in a local pub - their roast chicken was to die for, and let me tell you, the atmosphere was absolutely magical! I ended the evening feeling full, happy and oh so inspired, as a solo dance session in my B&B bedroom under the glow of a fairy-lit lamp cemented the memory of this fantastic day.
This, my friends, is what a truly happy day feels like. Sometimes all it takes is a change of scenery, a dash of pink tulle, and a generous sprinkling of kindness from the people you meet along the way.
This is just the beginning of my Salisbury adventure! Tomorrow, I’m planning a day out in the countryside, perhaps even a spot of horseback riding! Of course, 'The Duchess' will be there, by my side, twirling among the daffodils, basking in the sun's rays.
Remember, everyone, there’s a pink tutu waiting for you out there! Let’s all dance, sparkle, and embrace life’s simple joys.
Stay tuned, my lovely dancers!
Love and sparkles,
Emma
