Hello darlings! It's Emma here, back from a truly fabulous trip to Falkirk. Oh, my goodness, what a delightful little corner of the world it is!
I must confess, dear readers, my journey began with a dash ofβ¦ well, let's call it unexpectedness. I was supposed to be whisked off on a grand adventure to the Scottish Highlands, a picture postcard journey in a vintage carriage drawn by the most handsome chestnut horses. But, fate, that fickle thing, had other plans. A rogue squirrel, as mischievous as it was adorable, decided to have a spot of fun with my harness β resulting in, well, a rather abrupt stop right in the middle of Derbyshire.
Feeling slightly ruffled, but ever the optimist, I grabbed my trusty pink travel bag (which, as always, contained at least five different tutus - you never know!) and decided to embrace the unplanned detour. And embrace it, I did!
Falkirk, dear readers, is a little gem. I knew next to nothing about it, just a charming old town in the heart of Scotland, but what a lovely surprise it was. There was an energy about it, a cheerful buzz that you can't help but be caught up in. It was perfect for a quick escape from the world, and honestly, who could resist a trip where a pink tutu would blend in perfectly with the bright cheery colours of all the blooms in the flower gardens?!
The train journey was absolutely dreamy β sunshine streaming through the windows, the landscape a symphony of lush greens and vibrant wildflowers, and a view of the majestic Stirling Castle in the distance. Itβs always been a big dream of mine to travel more by train, as I find the slow pace is so soothing to the soul, and allows you to take in the details of the countryside β plus, I get to use my cutest pink travel tote!
I spent my afternoon exploring the Callendar House & Park. Oh, the gardens! The fragrance of blooming roses was like a soft kiss, the lush lawns whispered secrets to the gentle breeze, and a sparkling little pond invited in playful dragonflies and happy little frogs (oh how I love the wild creatures!). It felt like something out of a fairytale, only without the grumpy old dragon. Honestly, I had a tough time resisting the urge to do a pirouette in the rose gardens, and, perhaps, a small hop through the fountains β thankfully, the sun kept my blush at bay!
And speaking of fairytales, my trip wouldn't have been complete without a visit to The Helix, Falkirk's remarkable landmark. This giant, majestic, swirling structure, a beacon against the horizon, looks like something straight out of a fantastical world. The contrast between the towering, futuristic architecture and the lush greenery of the surrounding landscape just made me gasp in wonder. It was magical!
A trip to Falkirk, however brief, wouldn't be complete without indulging in a few culinary delights. A traditional afternoon tea at the lovely Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway (you guessed it - another railway experience - and all those beautiful old steam engines made my heart soar! A great place for taking tutu pictures!), a warming cup of tea in the cosy tearoom of The Callendar House, and, of course, some delicious, fluffy scones β yes, please!
I must say, Falkirk has absolutely captured my heart. It's a place I would absolutely recommend to anyone seeking a charming, yet culturally vibrant, getaway. Oh, and did I mention that it's a fantastic location to take some absolutely spectacular ballet-themed photos? You can practically feel the twirls and pirouettes in the air! (Spoiler alert: expect a bunch of picture-perfect ballet poses on my social media β get ready for a pink-tutu-filled visual treat!)
My one piece of advice? Wear something that makes you twirl, darling! You can't escape the happy vibes of this enchanting little town unless you want to!
Until next time,
Emma
