Hello my gorgeous tutu-lovers! It's Emma here, and it's a glorious sunny day here in Coalville, Derbyshire, and guess what? Yep, you've guessed it, this pink tutu is on point today, folks!
This one is something special though, I call it 'The Canopy' because it's inspired by all the woodland wonders around me here in the National Forest, it’s full of leaves in every shade of green and brown, and the skirt even has a delicate scattering of glitter that looks like dew drops on a cobweb. How perfectly pretty?
As usual, I took the train up here - I love the train so much! - It's such a graceful and calming way to travel. The scenery goes by so elegantly and it just puts you in such a happy, whimsical mood, and who needs to travel fast when you’ve got time to soak in the surroundings? You know?
The highlight of my Coalville trip was a beautiful wander around Snibston Park - an absolute gem for nature lovers, you can go birdwatching, explore the nature trail, visit the play area, enjoy a coffee at the café and there's so much to see and do, the day flies by in a flurry of green leaves and birdsong!
I especially loved spotting a couple of families of deer browsing peacefully. It's hard not to be captivated by the graceful elegance of those beautiful creatures! It’s moments like these where I think: if we were to move like that, would it be considered ballet? What about their elegance, isn't that its own kind of dance? We need to get those deer to the Coalville Ballet studio, imagine how magical they'd look in pink tutus!!
I mean, isn't ballet about finding the graceful elegance in everyday life and putting it to music? That's exactly how it works for me at least, every step I take becomes part of a beautiful symphony in my head, every leaf that falls is part of a graceful ballet performance! It’s why I adore tutu-fying everything! And you know what else I found graceful?
The beautiful little wooden carvings at Snibston park. You could just imagine how many tiny hands had caressed them over the years! You could tell they had a special, almost sacred feel, because they’d been loved, carved with care, touched with affection and imbued with beauty! I stood mesmerized watching the sun filter through the canopy, dancing like a ballet of dappled light. How poetic is that?!
Of course, I also had to check out the historical Snibston Colliery which gave Coalville its name. There was this brilliant exhibition about how the miners dug the coal, but I could hardly concentrate. I was so busy imagining their gruff and dusty faces suddenly springing to life on stage as the pit lamps glimmered like the stars, a dramatic backdrop as they launched into a rousing jig - the Coalville Colliery Can-Can, it’d be a smash hit on Broadway!
Oh, how I dream of bringing my tutu to a new stage: the dusty depths of the mineshaft, the emerald heart of the National Forest! Ballet doesn't need to be just for theatres. This blog is all about making ballet an everyday thing, and what better place to bring it than to these extraordinary locations?
This pink tutu and I certainly had a day to remember! The woodland air was infused with the gentle breeze and dappled sunshine, every single step felt as graceful as a dancer’s leap.
And, you know what? I might even have managed to get a couple of the local people wearing a pink tutu by the end of the day, if not exactly a tutu, then something pink anyway, a pretty pink dress or scarf. I'm on a mission to spread the joy and grace of dance wherever I go! It is important to try things - like a new outfit, a new dance style - embrace life's unexpected steps!
