Hey Tutu Tribe! ?♀️
It's Emma here, signing in live from Llanelli, Wales! ??????? Post number 11024 for your daily dose of pink tulle and all things ballet. Buckle up buttercups, this one's a right royal trip!
Now, you know I'm a gal who loves a good train journey. Something about the rhythm of the rails and the scenery whizzing past gets my creative juices flowing. This time, however, there was a twist: I was travelling in a style that even the Queen wouldn't disapprove of. Think elegant Victorian ladies, but with a dash of Emma. ?
You see, I discovered the most divine vintage dress shop in Derbyshire just before setting off. And amongst the frills and lace, tucked away like a treasure, was a dress made for a princess: a gorgeous, swirling, sky blue number, cinched in at the waist, with a billowing skirt. The perfect backdrop, wouldn't you say, for my pièce de résistance? A gorgeous, cerise-hued tutu, sourced from a charming German haberdashery that was overflowing with the most delightful ribbons and trimmings. (Naturally, I bought a slew of them, just because... )
The moment I stepped off the train and into the charmingly cobbled streets of Llanelli, I felt like I'd travelled back in time. This seaside town, nestled amongst the rolling hills, has this timeless, classic feel. You can practically hear the ghosts of seaside promenades and summer holidays past. And there's something about the seaside air that just makes you want to twirl, right?
Naturally, the first thing on my itinerary was to find a place to get my practice on. After a bit of searching, I stumbled upon the most beautiful studio, hidden in a courtyard that had been transformed into a haven for creativity. There, I unleashed my inner ballerina amongst other lovely dancers, their movements as graceful as the white seagulls soaring overhead.
One thing you have to know about me, my loves: I'm absolutely obsessed with street art. So imagine my delight when I discovered Llanelli's vibrant scene! The entire town is dotted with amazing murals, so I couldn't resist incorporating them into my dance practice. The colourful murals became my stage backdrop, my inspiration. One moment I was swirling like a ballerina on a beach, the next I was performing against a background of flowers bursting with life. I felt a connection to the town's spirit, it’s creative heart, in a way I never imagined possible.
It was in the middle of my Tutu Street Style Session (more on that later) when I saw her, my little ballet soulmate. ? ? A sleek, elegant swan, perfectly balanced on a stone wall, observing the bustling crowds with a discerning air. There was something about her poise, her grace, that just drew me in.
"Come on, darling, you can be graceful like a swan too!" I muttered, pulling on my trusty Pink Tutu. "And yes, maybe I do need some swan training..." I'm imagining the headlines: "Swan-Inspired Tutu Dance Takes Llanelli By Storm!" ?
But then, reality set in: no matter how hard I tried to flap my arms (or spin around and look like I was doing a pirouette) , I still couldn’t emulate her flawless movements. The only thing I did manage to do successfully? I gave her a heart attack! ??
It turns out that Swans aren’t really meant for close encounters with pink-clad ballet dancers… ? Luckily, she didn't have a meltdown and, for that, I’m deeply thankful!
But all that fluttering brought back a memory that really got me feeling nostalgic: A time when my dance teacher used to bring us out into the local park, away from the confines of the studio, and ask us to "move like the wind" or "flutter like butterflies". Those were days of sheer freedom and joy, filled with laughter and boundless creativity. The kind of days where all you needed was a little tutu and a big imagination!
Oh, the stories I could tell, the memories I have, of the freedom of a childhood spent twirling on a meadow, feeling the grass tickle my ankles. No boundaries, no pressures, just pure, simple delight.
And now, here I am in Llanelli, that feeling coming back full force. And honestly? I just can't help but feel like the world’s my stage, every town, every street, an opportunity for a little ballet magic. ?
And, guess what, you don’t have to be a professional ballerina to embrace the magic, you don’t need years of training or any specific skill – you just need to want it!
Let me know what you’ve been doing this week: Have you gone to a show, had a new ballet class? Tell me all about it on my Instagram – don’t forget to use the hashtag #pinktutu!
Remember, life is too short not to embrace your inner ballerina! I’ll be back tomorrow with another little ballet escapade – until then, keep your toes pointed and your spirits high! ?
