Spalding Splendour: Tutu Adventures in Lincolnshire

Hello darlings!

It's your girl, Emma, here, fresh from a fabulously flamboyant adventure to Spalding, a charming little town in the heart of Lincolnshire. Now, you might be thinking, "Emma, Spalding? Is there even a ballet studio there? " And to that, I say: Where there's a tutu, there's a way!

My journey began in a cloud of tulle and pink hues. No, I didn't take the train to Spalding, no no! This week, I decided to ditch the rails and embark on a truly majestic commute - by horseback! I know, darling, it sounds like something straight out of a fairytale, doesn't it? A glorious dappled sunshine morning ride through the Derbyshire countryside, wind in my hair, with only the rhythmic clip-clop of hooves and my trusty steed, Clementine, for company. Pure magic, I tell you!

Arriving in Spalding, a beautiful mix of cobbled streets and quaint Georgian architecture, it felt like stepping into a pastel painting. I checked into my little haven, The Rosebud Hotel, a boutique haven of pink frills and antique charm, where every room felt like a scene from a ballet set. They even had a 'tutu valet', ready to perfectly hang my flamboyant ensemble - which, by the way, was my showstopper: a glorious emerald green tutu with iridescent feather trim, perfect for this quintessentially British countryside escapade.

Spalding's hidden gem, the quaint little independent bookstore 'The Dusty Page', was my first stop. You'd be amazed at the ballet treasures I found in this charming store. There were books on the history of the tutu, biographies of ballerinas, even novels set in the world of ballet, each one a delicious, swirling world waiting to be explored. And oh, the vintage costume sketches! Pure inspiration, darlings!

My next stop, and the true heart of my Spalding sojourn, was the 'Grace & Steps' ballet studio. Now, this wasn't a sprawling theatre, or a glamorous academy, but a beautifully quaint Victorian-style building with a real sense of community. I was welcomed by a charming lady called Agnes, with twinkling eyes and a passion for ballet as bright as the sequins on my tutu. It felt like being greeted by a favourite ballet teacher, even if this was my first visit. The studio was a kaleidoscope of pastel pink and ballet pink, with posters showcasing some truly fabulous young dancers. It felt like home, instantly!

I couldn't resist popping in for a class, of course! A mix of eager little ballerinas, some aspiring for professional stardom, others simply wanting to dance for the joy of it, they all wore smiles brighter than my feather trim. It was a beautiful sight, so refreshing, a reminder that ballet is truly for everyone. I joined in the exercises, reminiscing about my own days of pointe work and pirouettes, a thrill to relive this magic after so long.

Later, we enjoyed a delicious tea at the 'Strawberry Patch Cafe,' a tiny gem of a spot in a bustling square. They had the cutest afternoon tea, all floral pastries and delicate sandwiches, truly a fairytale afternoon treat! Then, we finished off the evening by taking a relaxing stroll along the River Welland, enjoying the setting sun painting the sky in hues of pinks and purples - the perfect complement to my emerald tutu, wouldn't you say?

My adventure in Spalding ended with a sense of profound joy. I experienced a love of dance that wasn't confined by city lights or stage curtains, a love shared amongst individuals from all walks of life, and all connected by a shared passion for movement. This trip reminded me why I share my adventures with you, darlings. We need more joy, more sparkle, and a little bit more tutu in our lives, don't you think?

Until next time,

Your Tutu Queen,

Emma
