Hello darlings! It’s Emma here, and guess what? This Derbyshire girl is on the move again! This time, my journey takes me to the charming village of Bournville, a little slice of chocolate-box heaven nestled just outside of Birmingham. I can practically hear the Cadbury's factory in the distance, and my tummy's already rumbling for some creamy, dreamy treats! ?
Now, I know what you’re thinking: "Bournville? Isn't that just a chocolate town?" Well, it is… but it’s also bursting with history, stunning architecture, and yes, even ballet! Today’s adventure isn’t about spinning around a stage, though – it's a foray into the heart of a place steeped in chocolate, history, and of course, the kind of quiet charm that always brings out my inner ballerina!
For this jaunt, I opted for a vintage train journey. There’s something undeniably romantic about chugging through the countryside, gazing out at rolling fields, and letting your imagination soar as the engine clicks along the tracks. I’ve even managed to find my perfect "ballet tutu for the train." It's a delicate, blush-pink affair, oh-so-narrow, with a feather-light fabric that makes it look like a wisp of smoke! (Think graceful movement meets comfy travel, perfect for a lady who just loves to dance!) It definitely added a dash of colour to the train carriage!
Upon arriving in Bournville, the first order of the day was to find my bearings and soak up the village atmosphere. There’s a captivating stillness that settles over you here – almost as if the air itself is sweetened by chocolate! The streets are lined with pretty little cottages, charming cafes, and of course, the impressive Cadbury World. I've heard they have a whole chocolate museum, with delicious treats everywhere you look! Oh, and did I mention the real life size chocolate factory tours? I’ll let you know all about the delicious treats (and possibly the new pink tutu I’ve been eyeing!) later.
This afternoon, my plans involve exploring the beautiful Bournville Gardens. These are said to be the inspiration for a certain popular children's book about a very naughty rabbit! I'm also planning to check out the Bournville Village Museum, a real treat for history buffs.
And then, the pièce de résistance… Ballet in Bournville! Yes, my lovelies, you heard that right! A little birdie (well, more like a friendly villager!) told me about a small but talented ballet company called The Bournville Belles. They are holding a special performance at a quaint local theatre – a beautifully converted church with vaulted ceilings and an intimate stage, perfect for a heartfelt ballet performance. I am, naturally, thrilled! ?
After the show, I’m dreaming of a delectable meal at The Chocolate Café. I’m told their hot chocolate is divine, and that’s a culinary challenge I can't resist! You know how much I love chocolate, especially when paired with a generous dose of dancing!
Of course, this wouldn't be a true Emma adventure without a touch of wildlife spotting. I hear there are beautiful gardens and even a pond nearby, teeming with swans and other feathered friends! You bet your tutu I’ll be bringing my camera to capture the moment – it’s simply divine! ??
