Hello my gorgeous Tutu-istas!
It's Emma here, your pinkest ballet enthusiast, writing to you live from the vibrant, fun-filled Blackpool! ?✨
You know I love a good adventure, and this trip has been a real whirlwind. You wouldn't believe how excited I was to finally visit this iconic seaside town - famous for its laughter, seaside charm, and of course, the incredible Blackpool Tower! It felt like stepping back in time, but in the best way possible. Think vintage amusement park rides, bright neon signs, and an atmosphere that's positively bursting with energy.
And the best part? This weekend I'm celebrating one of my favourite things - the beautiful, whimsical, and utterly fabulous Pancake Tutu! Yes, you heard me right! ? This year marks the annual Pancake Tutu festival in Blackpool - an event celebrating all things delicious and dance-worthy. Imagine a whole day of fluffy pancake creations, amazing ballet performances, and of course, lots of pink!
So, as soon as I stepped off the train (which, by the way, was a total joy - a little bit of luxury travel never hurt anyone, right?!), I headed straight for the festival grounds. My first stop was the Pancake Palace - a giant tent filled with stalls selling every kind of pancake you could imagine: classic sugar-and-lemon, Nutella-stuffed, even one with a cheeky face made from raspberry sauce! (Let's just say it took a lot of willpower not to indulge in the whole menu!).
But it wasn't all about eating. The real highlight of the day, of course, was the Tutu Extravaganza - a breathtaking ballet performance set right in the heart of the Blackpool Tower Ballroom! This is where the pancake-themed tutu outfits really took centre stage. They were absolutely stunning. Think glittering edible sequins, chiffon swirling like pancake batter, and even a pair of dancers sporting pancake-print tutus made entirely from fabric printed with real pancake photos. (My inner artist gasped! Talk about unique and creative!).
The show itself was something else! They combined classic ballet moves with a whimsical touch of slapstick and storytelling. There were graceful leaps and pirouettes that would make even the most seasoned ballerina envious, followed by a hilarious sequence involving a clumsy, pie-flinging baker, who, to my surprise, turned out to be a skilled pirouette expert himself! The audience, dressed in all kinds of adorable, colourful tutus, erupted in cheers and laughter, and even I had to admit, I was moved to tears!
Now, my darlings, you know I couldn't come all the way to Blackpool and not embrace the full "tourist experience," right?! After the pancake-filled ballet, I hopped onto one of those vintage horse-drawn carriages, a majestic black horse pulling us through the cobblestone streets of Blackpool. I felt like a character straight out of a classic fairytale. The breeze blowing in my hair, the wind whistling through the horses' manes - it was a real sensory overload!
No visit to Blackpool is complete without a trip to the famous Tower itself, so I spent the rest of the evening gazing out from its dizzying heights. The views were breathtaking. The city sprawling before me, the sparkling lights of the pier, and the crashing waves of the sea. I could practically feel the salty air on my face - a magical, nostalgic feeling.
The beauty of Blackpool really is about embracing those nostalgic vibes. And who could say no to an ice cream from the pier, right? ? The sun set, the seagulls chirped, and I knew that Blackpool had woven its magic on me.
One of the things I love about ballet, and the Pancake Tutu festival, is how it brings together people from all walks of life. Everyone here is celebrating this joyous, silly side of life. I even saw a couple with their two golden retrievers wearing matching miniature pancake tutus! It was simply adorable.
Before I head back to Derbyshire tomorrow (sadly!), I wanted to leave you with some words of inspiration: Let's keep spreading the joy of ballet and pancake tutus! Why not grab a friend, whip up a pancake masterpiece, and unleash your inner dancer? The world is a bigger, brighter, more fun place when we wear our pink tutus, our heart on our sleeves, and our passion for life on our fingertips.
Stay tuned for my next adventure, tutu-istas, and don't forget to check out www.pink-tutu.com for more inspiration. See you soon!
Love,
Emma ??
