Oh hello darlings, it's your favourite tutu-wearing, ballet-obsessed blogger Emma, back with another diary entry from my adventures in the world of dance and everything pink! Today I'm in Hove, a little seaside town down south with a surprisingly vibrant ballet scene (who knew?!).
You guys know how much I adore train journeys - the click-clacking rhythm is almost like a ballet in itself, especially when it's paired with a good playlist and a latte (it has to be oat, naturally!). This morning, however, I had an absolute blast, thanks to the beautiful people at Horse Drawn Brighton - I rode in style in a gorgeous horse-drawn carriage! What's more fabulous than a carriage ride through the Brighton lanes? A carriage ride where you get to wear your pink tutu, of course! ?
Speaking of which, let's talk about this divine little tutu! It's made of the softest pink tulle you've ever felt, and it has the most exquisite sparkly detailing - it's all I can think about! I know I say it all the time, but tutus are truly magic! It’s a pity I've had to get one of those stiff petticoat things inside. It adds an extra, um, bouncy dimension to the whole experience! Maybe the horse liked the bounce, but I was definitely aware of it every step I took!
My destination was a tiny little dance studio called "En Pointe" tucked away in a side street. They had the cutest little sign with a ballerina leaping, which reminded me of my own early dance lessons - all that tiny dancer magic was swirling around me! The studio was packed with a real mix of dancers: kids just starting out, graceful older ladies, and even a few strapping young men doing a few daring pirouettes! I know I've said this before, but there's something so inspiring about seeing so many different people come together with a shared love of dance. ?
The class was just what I needed after that carriage ride! It was a proper stretch-your-muscles, sweat-your-worries-away session, followed by a little creative flow that just let my imagination take over. We even got to perform a piece based on a piece by one of my favourite choreographers, the amazing David Dawson - so exciting! He's always challenging boundaries, mixing classical technique with modern elements.
I love how these dance studios, especially the smaller ones, can feel so welcoming and so full of character. There was a little cafe right next door called "The Pointe of Tea," and oh my gosh, they served the best iced rose tea with little meringue kisses! I mean, could it be more me? ?
Speaking of rose tea and pink tutus, let's talk about the power of pink!
Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of other colours (teal and emerald green have a special place in my heart), but there's something about pink that just lifts your mood, fills you with confidence, and screams “this is who I am.” My philosophy? It doesn't matter what age you are, if you're a ballet dancer, a businessman, or a grandmother - if you’re not afraid to wear a pink tutu, you're unstoppable! ?
While I was in Hove, I took a lovely stroll along the promenade. There were all these people walking their dogs, taking in the sunshine, enjoying the fresh air. And you know what I saw? A flock of pink flamingos, perched on a rock by the sea. They reminded me of myself in a tutu - all grace and vibrancy against a backdrop of blue. ?
It makes you think, doesn’t it? Pink flamingos, they don't care what anyone else thinks. They stand tall and proud in their flamboyant feathers, a glorious contradiction to the more subdued hues of the natural world. They're just living their best life, spreading pink joy and sunshine wherever they go! Just like a ballerina in a pink tutu, I'd say! ?
So, here's the takeaway from today’s adventure: Don't be afraid to wear pink! Don't be afraid to stand out, to express yourself, to go on wild carriage rides, and to find your own dance within a bustling, beautiful world. We're all here for the adventure! ✨
