Hello darlings! It’s your favourite tutu-tastic travel blogger, Emma, here, back with another exciting escapade! Today I’m taking you with me on a journey to the historic town of Burton upon Trent, a place renowned for its brewing heritage, but for me, a new adventure with a sprinkle of purple tulle!
I always say, there's no place like a new town, especially when you can rock a killer tutu and make new discoveries. This week, I swapped my usual pink tutu for a bold and bright purple one, feeling like a royal princess venturing into a magical world! (The pink will be back, I promise!)
Getting to Burton upon Trent was a blast. Instead of my usual train journey, I decided to travel by… horse! Yes, you read that right! A friend lent me her stunning black stallion, Arlo. We rode through the rolling hills of Derbyshire, the crisp morning air filling my lungs, the sunlight glinting off Arlo's sleek coat, a truly exhilarating way to travel!
Once in Burton, my heart skipped a beat as I spotted the charming Victorian architecture. Quaint shops and cafes lined the streets, buzzing with a sense of community and charm. My senses were instantly filled with the intoxicating aroma of hops and malt, reminding me of the famous Burton Ale that’s brewed here.
As a true ballet fanatic, my first stop had to be the Burton upon Trent Theatre. They were having an open day for local ballet schools, and oh my, the joy! It was a wonderland of twirling and pirouettes! Children of all ages were learning new steps, their faces beaming with delight. The joy of sharing this passion with the next generation, even with a tiny dash of purple tutu magic, fills me with such happiness.
Next on the itinerary was the National Brewery Centre. This immersive museum gave me a deep dive into the world of brewing. I learned about the history of Burton’s beer-making legacy, from its humble beginnings to its global influence. My favourite part was tasting a few locally-produced ales - some real hidden gems! But, in true Emma style, I paired them with a sprinkle of fairy cakes (I just couldn’t resist!).
The afternoon sun was painting the sky with hues of orange and pink, beckoning me to explore the charming "Banks's Brewery" gardens, nestled on the banks of the River Trent. This oasis of calm was perfect for a leisurely stroll, the gentle rustling of leaves and the sound of birdsong creating a symphony of nature. And yes, I had a mini dance break, naturally.
The highlight of my Burton adventure was a private ballet class with the National Brewery Centre’s resident choreographer, a man named James. We did some incredible improvisations – ballet moves with a playful twist – using the giant, ornate fermenting vats as our backdrop! Who says ballet can’t be found in unexpected places?
As the day drew to a close, I felt truly inspired by the energy of this beautiful town. The locals were so welcoming and friendly, even taking a few photos with me, especially when I wore my bright purple tutu.
I'm leaving Burton upon Trent with a heart filled with a glow, ready to share this wonderful experience with all of you! Remember darlings, the world is a magical place, just waiting to be explored with a tutu, some laughter, and a big, pink (or purple!) heart!
See you soon for more adventures, Emma xo
