Hello my gorgeous ballet bunnies! ? It's your favourite pink-loving tutu queen, Emma, here, ready to whisk you away on a whirlwind tour of Thornton Heath!
The air's a little crisp this morning, but I'm feeling as bright as a newly polished pair of pointe shoes! Today's outfit is all about that sassy, chic vibe: a sunshine yellow tutu (courtesy of my fabulous tailor in Derbyshire, who hand-stitched it just for me!) with a sleek, fitted black leotard and a pair of pink, sparkle-encrusted ballerina flats. My hair's pulled back in a messy bun, just a few tendrils escaping to frame my face. You know me, a little touch of elegance with a touch of messy, free-spirited fun!
So, you might be asking: Thornton Heath? What's there? Well, darling, let me tell you, it's full of surprises! The vibrant street art on the station walls instantly put a smile on my face – think colourful murals and witty slogans that made me giggle!
I arrived by train, of course. A luxurious vintage carriage with velvet seats – pure magic! I can't help but be charmed by the romanticism of train travel. ? As we zoomed through the countryside, the rolling green hills felt like a dance set, the sunbeams bouncing off the fields. Just picture me, twirling gracefully in my tutu as the wind whips through my hair. It was almost as magical as a performance on stage! Almost! ?
The first stop was the beautiful Thornton Heath Library. Now, I'm not usually one for stuffy old libraries, but this one is an absolute gem! Imagine a building with soaring high ceilings and windows that bathe the room in warm sunlight. They've even got this amazing reading room with comfy velvet armchairs and little lamps - pure literary indulgence. You can almost hear the stories coming alive, whispering secrets amongst the pages. ?
Right next door was this little park tucked away between houses, the perfect spot for a quiet ballet practice. The gentle rustle of leaves as the breeze danced through the trees provided the perfect natural accompaniment. ?? I was lost in my own little world, gliding through my pirouettes and grand jetés, feeling a sense of perfect serenity and pure, joyous movement.
And who could resist a spot of afternoon tea after all that exertion? The aroma of freshly brewed Earl Grey tea filled the air as I walked into this lovely café with delicate china cups and saucers, a touch of pink on the tablecloths, naturally! ? It felt like stepping back in time, in the most delightful way possible. It made me realise how even the simplest of things, like a perfectly brewed cup of tea in a cosy little spot, can truly enhance your day.
Before leaving Thornton Heath, I had to pay a visit to their local theatre. A bit of a hidden gem, tucked away down a little alleyway, but I was amazed by the charming architecture. It felt like stepping back into time. ?️ They've even got an amazing, atmospheric, chandelier. Imagine, me twirling under it, under the dazzling spotlights, as the audience looks on with captivated smiles. It's a vision, don't you think?
And of course, my day in Thornton Heath wouldn't be complete without a touch of wildlife! A quick detour led me to the Thornton Heath Pond, a peaceful haven for swans, ducks, and other feathered friends. The swans were so graceful, gliding effortlessly through the water – it's like a dance rehearsal right there in nature. Watching them glide so peacefully brought a sense of inner peace to my soul. ?
As I hopped back on the train to return to Derbyshire, a gentle, nostalgic melody filled my heart. My day in Thornton Heath, with its unique charm and surprises around every corner, left a lasting impression on me.
And it made me think… maybe you don't need a big city or a fancy studio to embrace the joy of ballet. It can be found anywhere, in every corner of the world.
So, put on your brightest pink tutu, grab your pointe shoes or dancing shoes, and join me in bringing the magic of ballet to life! It's never too late to twirl, no matter where you are, who you are, or what your age. Let's dance together, my ballet bunnies!
See you tomorrow, in the fabulous pinkness,
Emma x
