Pinner: A Black Tutu Adventure

Hello darlings!

It’s Emma here, back with you from the charmingly quaint town of Pinner, just outside of London!

Let’s face it, dear readers, Pinner may not immediately spring to mind as the most exciting destination for a tutu-loving ballet aficionado like myself. But, as always, with a healthy dose of imagination, a vibrant pink tutu (this time in a slightly moodier black hue) and a touch of ballet magic, even the most ordinary place can be transformed.

Today's journey started in the heart of Derbyshire, my beloved home county, a quick and glamorous train journey that saw me admiring the lush green rolling hills, dotted with sleepy villages, whilst sipping a warm cappuccino and sketching ideas for my next fabulous pink tutu design.

My day started early, of course, with a beautiful sunrise. The golden light reflecting on my prized collection of ballet shoes - my ballet uniform - had me feeling so inspired! There is nothing like a bit of morning inspiration, especially if you can pair it with the smell of freshly brewed coffee and the excitement of a new adventure.

As always, my favourite companion on this jaunt? My beloved trusty steed, Rupert, my black and white thoroughbred, who is always up for a galloping adventure! The wind whipping through my hair as Rupert navigates the countryside is a sensation I never get tired of. It’s like the freedom of flying.

We made it to the station in good time, as always, and even found ourselves a quiet little corner in the First Class carriage for my journey, away from the crowds. Oh, I love the elegance and glamour of First Class travel – it’s always so civilised!

Upon my arrival in London, I could feel the excitement in the air. The streets buzzed with the usual charmingly chaotic energy, with locals bustling by and tourists gazing at the iconic landmarks.

My Pinner adventure had a touch of theatricality in mind today, and so the plan was to visit a beautiful antique theatre on the edge of the village, famed for its intimate atmosphere. My dear friend Emily, a fellow ballerina (though her tutus are rather more traditional!), joined me on the adventure, and we headed off together.

Oh, and did I mention that Pinner is the most adorable place to find pretty teacups and saucers? You can't wander the town's little shops and not fall in love with some of the delightful little vintage china sets they have! Emily and I had the time of our lives searching through the vintage and antique shops - and of course, I couldn't resist purchasing a gorgeous little hand-painted set that will add just a touch of vintage whimsy to my home tea parties.

Our arrival at the theatre felt like stepping into another era. It's the kind of venue that could only be imagined in a movie! It even has its very own secret little garden where we had a picnic under the cherry blossom trees - I brought some cucumber sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam, of course, and Emily brought the tea, as she is such a darling!

The antique theatre is the heart of the village - and oh what a jewel! We spent the entire afternoon enjoying the breathtaking atmosphere, getting lost in the beauty of this unique little corner of Pinner.

I loved exploring the charming old dressing rooms, with their faded velvet curtains and mirrors reflecting our happy selves. There's a special magic to such a historic place. It was almost as if the ghosts of famous dancers and actors were watching us, guiding our footsteps and adding their own sparkle to our afternoon.

Of course, we wouldn't have missed the opportunity to see the theatre's collection of historical costumes and posters. A pair of Victorian ballet shoes caught my eye, made with simple, hand-stitched leather. They looked fragile yet exquisite - such craftsmanship and precision - just imagine the passion and grace of the ballerina who once wore them.

The afternoon slipped away in a flurry of excitement. But as evening descended, we found ourselves heading for one last stop before making our way back to Derbyshire, with Rupert, and my comfy train. The village's bustling market was an irresistible call! I love the sense of community and excitement a bustling market can bring. It's a place where the energy is infectious, and I can't help but get swept up in the vibrant colours and chatter.

Naturally, Emily and I found ourselves in a lovely little stall brimming with vibrant blooms - and of course, we both had to pick ourselves a posy of pink lilies! They'll look simply divine in my boudoir, perfect for my tutu-infused dreams! I think I've finally decided to incorporate these vibrant lilies in my next tutu design – a touch of whimsy to represent this wonderful day, full of romance and beauty, even when it involved wearing my moody black tutu.

Emily was excited about buying a quirky little carved wooden figure - it was in the shape of a dancing bear. She says she’ll paint it with black, white and gold for her collection, though I wouldn't mind adopting it – a new muse to accompany my many tutus and ballet books.

Back on the train, surrounded by the peaceful scenery, my thoughts began to turn to my dear readers! My mission, darling readers, is to spread the beauty of ballet across the world, and with you, I hope to encourage more and more of you to take the leap, find a tutu that sparks your own inner grace, and step into the magical world of dance!

I have a sneaking suspicion this will involve everyone wearing a pink tutu eventually, of course.

Pinner's delightful mix of history, nature and charming energy was the perfect setting to remind us all to find the beauty in even the most ordinary things, embrace our passions with enthusiasm, and always wear a tutu with a joyful spirit, regardless of what color it may be.

Now, excuse me while I go dream about dancing with pink lilies and whimsical bears! Until next time!

With all my love,

Emma
