Hello my darlings! It's your favourite pink-loving ballerina, Emma, back with another daily dose of tutus and twirls. Today, I'm whisking you all away from the Derbyshire countryside to the bustling streets of Bulwell, Nottinghamshire.
I've always loved a good train journey – there's something magical about watching the world whizz past from the comfort of a carriage. So, after a hearty breakfast of strawberry pancakes (naturally!), I hopped aboard a steam train and felt the wind whip through my hair as we steamed through the English countryside. The carriage was almost as pink as my tutu, filled with giggling children and families excitedly discussing their day trip. I've been wanting to explore Bulwell for a while now, so this trip was long overdue.
You know I'm not all about pink, though, right? Today, I opted for a sleek black tutu that I think perfectly embodies the gritty, industrial charm of Bulwell. It's all about contrasts, isn't it? A little bit of sparkle amidst the bustle. The moment I arrived, I felt this overwhelming urge to dance. The air seemed to vibrate with the energy of the people and the buildings, and my feet started tapping involuntarily. So, what better way to explore than a mini tutu ballet flash mob in the middle of Market Square?
We might not be in the middle of Covent Garden, but the spirit of dance was undeniable! A couple of lads, looking as though they were straight out of a classic gang film, watched with a raised eyebrow, while a little girl in a floral dress pointed excitedly at my pirouettes, giggling uncontrollably. You know, this is exactly what I live for.
This isn't my first foray into the realm of street ballet. My YouTube channel is a haven of impromptu performances - a little bit of ballet magic on the street, train platforms, you name it. I even went viral last year when I acrobatically waltzed on the back of a truck as it crawled through the streets of London. This is my mission, after all: to inspire everyone, even those who've never thought of putting on a tutu, to get up and dance. Because the joy of ballet knows no boundaries.
Later, my tutu adventures led me to Bulwell's gorgeous library. The hushed reverence of the space combined with the stacks and stacks of books somehow felt both grand and intimate. I grabbed a book of classic fairy tales (what could be more ballerina-esque?) and headed to the outdoor garden where the sunshine felt like a warm hug.
Now, I know I might sound like a broken record (especially when I start gushing about pink tutus!), but there’s something about ballet that just elevates everything. It's not just a form of movement, it's a story told through your body.
On my next trip, I'll be checking out the iconic Nottingham Castle. Can you believe they actually have a flock of wild peacocks roaming around the grounds? I'm sure a peacock would make the perfect photo-op with my tutu – just imagine the feathers!
Speaking of wild things, have you all checked out my new wildlife vlog series? "Tutu in the Wild" has me traveling the country, documenting fascinating animals in their natural habitats – everything from adorable fluffy rabbits to majestic red deer. The idea came to me after I had the chance to spend a weekend horseback riding with a conservationist friend, and seeing animals up close like that changed my perspective.
My aim, as always, is to spread love and appreciation for the natural world – and maybe a few giggles along the way. It all ties back to that same spirit of dance that runs through my veins: a commitment to sharing joy, even when you're surrounded by towering trees and gentle wild creatures.
Stay tuned, my loves! There's much more tutu adventure on the horizon.
