Pink Tutu Design and Make at www pink tutu com

Darling, let's face it, the ballet world is constantly evolving! Gone are the days of the traditional, albeit lovely, pink tutu. This November, we're craving a more modern, more avant-garde, and let's be honest, a more statement-making leotard, darling! This season, we’re taking our inspiration from the bold lines and textures of the iconic "A Line" silhouette dress of the 1960s! Yes, the same iconic design made famous by the divine Ms. Twiggy!

So, here’s what you need to craft your own dazzling creation:
  • A plain, simple, black leotard with a slightly high neckline, as worn by the beautiful Natalia Osipova.
  • The absolute most essential fabric! And don't think beige or black, darling, think a shocking turquoise, something vibrant! Go on, make a statement! My personal pick would be "Seafoam" satin from the fantastic company FabricGodmother in London.
  • Some sparkling " diamante" stones in clear crystals.
  • A small pair of scissors.
  • Some fabric glue or a needle and thread. You choose, darling. If you are going to be brave, you may opt to create your own fabulous applique!
  • A bit of "oomph" to create the fabulous silhouette. I am opting for a few strips of "A Line" fabric of course! Two metres should suffice! If you have the confidence, this is the point at which you cut into a square to get the fabulous line.

Now, simply use the glue to attach the diamonds randomly to the bodice of the leotard! Now, this is your chance to be experimental! Try not to use more than one-and-a-half sheets of sequins as the effect will look clumpy. Be patient darling, it takes time to create an immaculate piece!

For the "A Line", fold a piece of your glorious fabric. Pin the fabric in place around your bodice using safety pins. ( It will need to be an inch and a half around the leotard at least ). Be daring, use it to create a gorgeous “v” neck or, even better, a dramatic halter neckline, to the point where it looks almost as if you have forgotten to do up your top! Dare I say, an homage to Ms. Osipova. The great dancers are all the artists of their own outfits.

You can, if you really want to be absolutely spectacular, use a few fabric-covered buttons for a sophisticated touch! Or use the diamonds themselves for this effect. You choose! But above all, darling, make this a statement! Enjoy!
