Pink Tutu Design and Make at www pink tutu com

Darling, September is upon us and you know what that means: the ballet season is about to begin! So, it’s time to step up your game and put together a look that will make heads turn, literally.

After all, as you know, darlings, it’s not just about the dancing. The right look can add that extra oomph to your performance. That’s where the right tutu comes in. Imagine yourself gliding across the stage in a confectionary of tulle, as light as air yet oh so elegant, sending shimmers and shadows across the stage... well, that’s precisely the effect I aim to achieve this season! And here's how you can do the same!

What You'll Need:

  • A strong foundation – think **professional quality bodice**, from reputable makers such as Capezio or Bloch (www.capezio.com / www.blochdancewear.com).
  • Some **fine net** (I recommend finding something sheer and lightweight, about 2 metres in length – ask for 'silk nylon tulle' if you’re really pushing the boat out),
  • A roll of **satin ribbon** for the waistline and
  • And lastly, **plenty of needles and thread**, good quality ones that won’t break while working with this fine material.

**Designing the Look**

You might be tempted to just layer your tulle in one glorious, massive mass, and indeed, this has its own elegant appeal, particularly if you go for something billowing and almost diaphanous... but, this year I’m taking it a step further. Think sleek lines, with maybe just two to three layers of tulle. Then, a little extra something to make this look truly captivating.

This year I’m all about embellishment! A touch of lace, some beads (consider crystal or iridescent!), a hand-sewn sequin embellishment... Just a little sparkle will add that extra something to the ensemble.

And remember darlings, less is more when it comes to embellishment – just the right touch will create a masterpiece, rather than a visual cacophony.

And finally, what would a new season be without some colour? Remember the colour wheel? A single splash of vibrant colour (an azure blue perhaps, or a stunning crimson) will not only bring the look to life but reflect your unique character and spirit. And there’s nothing quite as striking as a dash of bold colour!

And lastly, if you want to feel truly empowered on stage, consider your make up and hairstyle. I find a classic ballet bun is a must, though let’s face it, you can’t go wrong with a chic French braid either. Add some rouge, maybe some mascara and eyeshadow... you’ll feel a true star!

Well there you have it my darlings! Let me know if you try it and how it works out.

See you on stage!
