Letās be the talk of the studio this August!
Darling, with this new season upon us, all we're thinking about are tutus and leotards, right? We can't go wrong with a classic look for our summer classes. However, just to add some zing to that look this August we need something *more*. This month we are giving the most basic garment a super sassy upgrade with an unexpected dash of colour. Think, āhot pink and a pinch of teal!ā. Hereās how:
Letās begin:
* Youāll need: a basic black leotard with a scoop neckline.
* **Shop this**: Find a stunning selection from our beloved [link to retailer]. Make sure that leotard hugs your curves just right and has that beautiful low neckline to make you feel powerful. Remember: a girl's gotta feel powerful in her gear!
* Second up: a *super sparkly* and beautiful white tulle. You donāt want your tutu to have layers and layers of fabric.
* **Shop this**: [link to retailer].
* The must have accessory for this look: a piece of hot pink stretch fabric. I am thinking a length of around 60cm, and donāt worry, I know where to get a gorgeously smooth and stretchy version online: [link to retailer]
* Don't forget, some basic sewing tools - like your trusty needle, some pins, your best scissors, a seam ripper for any little mishaps, a measuring tape, some chalk or a fabric marker ( for tracing, of course). You can pick these up at most craft stores.
Now for the steps!
* Letās attach the hot pink fabric, creating a dramatic strap:
- Using your sewing machine and a beautiful stitch, create a small pleat at each end of the hot pink fabric ( you will need around 5cm at each end, making sure to turn the fabric at these two points so the seams will face inwards and there's no roughness on the final piece, Darling). Then you want to stitch these to your leotard in the shoulder region.
- The piece should rest high on your back. You donāt want it to create an uncomfortable shoulder line or dig in, so keep your shoulders high while measuring. Then cut the excess fabric from the sides (to form those cute sharp lines)
* Next: creating the stunning tutu, my darling! Take your super sparkly and beautiful white tulle, carefully cut into lengths around 60cm. Don't worry if the lengths are not perfect, we can cut that up for an exciting effect! (You need at least four pieces) Then using those lovely pins, fasten all the edges of each piece of tulle at each side of the pink strap at the centre point to create a stunning 'fan' design on both shoulders.
* Make sure you are making neat, close knots to secure these tulle strips for an extremely chic finish. You can use your trusty pins to hold your work as you are stitching the tulle together - or perhaps grab the cutest fabric marker to make a mark! But, you *do* have to use a neat stitching around the strap that gives you confidence when wearing the ensemble.
* Now let's use your scissors to play a game. Give each tulle strip a cut every two inches or so (but go by your gut instinct) for that sensational "unstructured tutu" effect.
**For those last minute finishing touches**:
* Give the piece a good iron. Iron it *with love*, and a gentle press will help all those delicate edges sit better on the body and will give the pieces some stability to move with you, my lovely! The tulle must move like a cloud, but also hold shape with each move,
* You might even want to put in a sparkly hot pink safety pin to secure a single tulle strip around your arm and create a small, flowing detail - think arm jewellery, darlings. You are not a runway model in the 2010s or the 2000s- youāre a ballerina in *2023*! And let me tell you - thereās nothing hotter than that...
**Our finished look**:
The final result is something truly special, a touch of *modern-ballet magic*, for that hot summer season.
* Our basic leotard - elevated!
* An ethereal white tutu - but this time *on the shoulders*!
* And the **hot pink!** The pop of summer-chic - just the right amount and beautifully contrasted against the black and white of the tutu and leotard.
* As you wear it: The way this tutu moves will give you such a great feeling - *think* flowy, but in control. We need an air of *power*. Remember the soft shape but sharp, edgy details, the colour combination, the bold shoulders, it is all designed to draw *your* eyes to *you* in the centre! You want that feeling, a **powerful you* ! This little piece of magic is sure to turn heads at the studio - **Iāve no doubt that it's going to make *all the other ballerinas green with envy**.
