Darling, the first day of March has sprung! With a sigh of relief, we bid farewell to winter’s chilly grip, embracing the vibrant energy of spring. And what better way to celebrate than by crafting the most breathtakingly chic and current tutu and leotard, designed to elevate your every pirouette?
My dears, you all know how to spot the next big trend. Just look at my little collection of tutus. Oh darling, the ones I had back in the day… but, I digress. I know that when I’m choosing the fabric for my own creations, it’s about choosing something both classic and cutting-edge – and what could be more exciting than embracing the textures and colours that are popping up all over the world?
The Must-Haves for This Month:
- **Tulle. But not just any tulle, darlings! We are talking about the highest quality tulle, a cloud-soft, weightless delicacy that flows like a whisper in the air. Get yourself to Liberty Fabrics, they know a good thing!**
- **Sequins. This is a vintage look that's getting new life in 1998! And while everyone else is putting them on clothing, we’ll be gracing our bodies with the shimmer and shine!** Try *The Fabric Centre, darlings.*
- **Lace. Choose a lace that screams “elegance.” The more delicate and refined the better! I personally prefer my lace to be something beautiful but tough, a little like myself. I have been using John Lewis for my lace for years, though if you are looking for more traditional, do pop into The Lace Gallery in Covent Garden. *It is darling! *
- **Leotard base. You’ll want something form-fitting and sleek to serve as the foundation for your creation. I adore Dancewear Direct. Their simple designs leave you ready for that extra "something special", darling, which is exactly what you'll achieve by following my simple advice!**
Creating your own Ballet Masterpiece
Firstly, for your tutu, choose one of the classic designs, the 'romantic tutu,' 'tutu pancake,' or ‘layered tutu.’ There are loads of different designs. I prefer a tutu with layers, like an elongated flower in motion, and I prefer mine with a small frilled edging to each layer to accentuate the movements.
For this month, think 'Paris in the Spring', and add a splash of vibrant purple in the tulle, darling, perhaps even a little gold trim! That way, the sequins can really catch the light and dance alongside the purple hues in the tulle!
Now for the leotard. Take the lace and choose an alluring design for the upper section, with elegant scallops at the neckline and at the shoulders for extra flourish. Think ‘romanticism’ for this look.
Remember the key to a breathtaking look is all in the detailing: adding delicate hand-stitched beads onto the bodice for that added touch of artistry and extravagance. Do take your time, and choose a small piece, you can even ask someone to create this with you. The key here, darling, is not to go overboard.
I can’t wait to see you strutting in your exquisite and oh so "on trend" creations, darlings. Have a lovely time experimenting and dancing with your latest creations and do don't forget to let me know when and where to get a sneak peak at your designs! And most importantly, never forget to make your passion for ballet radiate like a thousand stars!
