Pink Tutu Design and Make at www pink tutu com

Darling, the season has just begun and, like a budding rose in springtime, the ballet world is blooming with excitement! As we welcome the ballets of the season, wouldn't it be simply divine to take the stage in a leotard or tutu that turns heads and steals the show? This month, let's unveil the secrets of creating a truly captivating ensemble - the key to making those spotlights burn a little brighter!

Imagine it: A wisp of silk chiffon cascading down your legs, the gentle swish of luxurious tulle, the impeccable cut and elegant finish. It’s not just a costume - it’s a whisper of magic, an ode to the beauty of movement and an echo of the grandeur of ballet itself. I'm speaking of creating your own masterpiece. Not just a standard issue tutu, no my darlings, we're talking a pièce de résistance that speaks to the soul of your dancing.

First, darling, the leotard. The perfect foundation, the canvas upon which your dance flourishes. I recommend choosing a colour that not only suits your skin tone but also captures the mood of your ballet. I'm rather smitten with a dusky lavender at the moment, a hint of Parisian charm. You could consider the vibrant energy of sapphire blue or the elegant allure of a classic black. You’ll need some exquisite fabric – stretchy yet supple, a beautiful, skin-toned Lycra would be ideal for a ballerina seeking the epitome of elegance. And darling, don't skimp on the detailing - consider exquisite lace or even strategically placed shimmering beads. Imagine the sparkle under those stage lights!

Now, the tutu, the exclamation point, the glorious crowning achievement. Forget the predictable, standard layers of white tulle, dear! Let's introduce the unconventional – try experimenting with a two-layered masterpiece. Imagine layers of delicate silk tulle – in hues that complement the leotard beautifully – like soft blush pink cascading over an ethereal navy. Don’t shy away from embellishing the top layer with some striking sequins, feathers, or even delicate flower embroidery, a dash of whimsy and elegance in one!

Your Supplies:

  • 1 ½ metres Lycra Fabric – found in many haberdasheries like ‘The Fabric Place’
  • 4 metres Silk Chiffon Fabric – browse for this at 'The Silk Store' for an array of stunning colours.
  • 2 metres Nylon Tulle in contrasting colours, perhaps in your favourite colours for a splash of colour. Check out ‘The Lace Shop’ – a treasure trove of embellishments!
  • 1 package of Beads in coordinating colours. They have an impressive selection at ‘A Bead For Every Occasion.’
  • 2 packages of delicate ribbon - a mix of satin and grosgrain would be lovely. 'A Ribbon to Remember' would be the perfect destination.
