Darlings, July is here, and you know what that means: time for a wardrobe revamp! Our bodies are on show, the sun is out, and all those balletic poses in the studio are going to look so much more striking if we're wearing the *perfect* leotard or tutu.
This month, I'm going for something classic, elegant, with just a hint of vintage glam. You can never go wrong with black, and when it comes to that ballerina look, less really is more! Think chic lines, exquisite fabric, and a subtle touch of shimmer. Here's what you need:
The Leotard:
- Fabric: You can't go wrong with a quality, spandex/nylon blend, with a touch of Lycra. You want something that moves with your body but doesn't feel too tight or flimsy. My favourite is **Danskin** or **Capezio**. You can find both at any good dancewear shop or online retailer like **Discount Dance** or **Dancewear Solutions**.
- Cut: Look for a simple, elegant cut. You want it to be flattering on your body, with maybe just a hint of detailing, like a small cutout back or subtle seams.
- Colour: As I said, black is the ultimate. If you want a hint of colour, consider a navy blue or charcoal.
- Detail: If you want to make it truly "you," look for a small, elegant detail. Perhaps a rhinestone strap or a tiny embroidered flower? These are just the perfect touches. Don't overthink it - a simple embellishment can go a long way.
The Tutu
- Fabric: Nothing beats a fine, soft tulle for that perfect ethereal feel. There's something utterly romantic about it, even when the movement is sharp. Find yours at **The Fabric Place** or **Mood Fabrics**, and make sure you select a slightly heavier weight - you don't want it to be too delicate, but rather, strong and durable to withstand a spin or two!
- Shape: I'm going for a classic, one-tier tutu for July. No frills or excessive layers, just something graceful and flattering.
- Colour: Of course, the best choice for that ballet classic? Black! If you're really bold, experiment with a dramatic navy. It'll give that night-time, velvet glamour!
- The Perfect Touch: You can use small pearls for an elegant and ethereal effect. Make sure to add some embellishment to your corset band or along the bottom of the tulle itself.
And, of course, the most essential piece... a beautiful smile and confidence! It truly can change everything! Now go forth and conquer those classes!
