For those who didn't catch my last piece, I'm Madame Vivienne, your seasoned and slightly fabulous, guide to all things stylish on and off the stage. As I've always said, the dancer's silhouette is an art form itself. A great tutu or leotard can take your performance from exquisite to absolutely spellbinding.
Let's get right to it, darlings! Today we are making the "Dreamscape." Oh, what is this tutu you ask? Allow me to elaborate, because I'm absolutely smitten with it. First off, the material is a shimmering champagne silk - it catches the light like a thousand tiny diamonds! But here is where the magic comes in. You see, I've created a tulle layer that mimics clouds drifting across the stage! We are talking billows of diaphanous, whisper-light chiffon in tones of white and silver, just cascading downwards for an almost dreamlike effect! This is what I'm talking about! But let's get to it.
Here is what you'll need:
- A basic champagne silk leotard - (available at your local dancewear shop, darlings!)
- 5 yards of shimmer champagne silk
- 3 yards of tulle (the thinner, the better, go for something that has that dreamy softness)
- At least 3 yards of tulle, the colour of your choice, for those magical clouds. The sheerer the tulle the better. It’s a matter of experimenting and achieving that ‘cloud’ look
- Needle and Thread
- Sewing machine
- Patience and, of course, a generous helping of "glamour"
Now, let's talk steps: 1. Take that champagne silk and you’re going to stitch a flowing, delicate overlay that covers the bottom of your leotard, with generous folds 2. Next, we'll focus on the "Dreamscape". Stitch the tulle and make it like an under-layer so that it just ripples beneath your chiffon ‘cloud’ effect.
And there you have it. Your own 'Dreamscape’ that you have painstakingly made yourself! Now let the magic happen darling! The ‘Dreamscape’ will turn you into a real ballerina on the stage - a goddess in that flowing, mesmerising design! And when your performance ends and you take your bow, remember it’s all about owning that look! You look fabulous, darling, Absolutely stunning!
