November's Ballerina: A Glimpse into the World of Dance
Darlings! November's chill has descended upon us, but the world of ballet remains hot, hotter than ever, really! From Paris to New York, London to Tokyo, the ballet stage is abuzz with excitement and talent. Oh, the performances I've been lucky enough to see this month ā just pure magic!
First up, let's talk about the **Paris Opera Ballet**, simply divine, as ever. Last week, I caught the opening night of their **āGiselleā**, and let me tell you, this wasn't your average, run-of-the-mill "Giselle." It was simply exquisite, a complete and utter masterpiece, darling. **Marie-AgnĆØs Gillot** as Giselle, was sensational; her portrayal of vulnerability and longing was heart-wrenching, and her dancing ā divine. **Ludovic Ondiviela** as Albrecht, was captivating, so charismatic, he made every glance, every movement, pure magnetism. You could feel the heat in the air, and the audience was simply spellbound.
Then, there was the choreography, darling! So intricately beautiful. The sylphs were otherworldly, and the corps de ballet danced with a precision and grace that took my breath away. A truly magical experience that left me speechless, with a heart full of wonder. If you get a chance to catch this "Giselle," do it. You won't regret it, I promise.
Switching gears completely, I made a rather delightful trip to **New York City** last week. The highlight was, of course, **New York City Ballet**, where I finally saw the revival of **Jerome Robbinsā "Afternoon of a Faun."** A piece full of intrigue and sensuality, it felt timeless, truly capturing the spirit of the original, naughty and lovely! The dancers were wonderful, especially the soloist, **Daniel Ulbricht**. Heās one of those dancers with an electric presence, so athletic, yet with such grace. I could watch him dance all day!
But the New York ballet experience doesn't end there, my dears. While I was there, I happened to catch the **American Ballet Theatre** at the **Metropolitan Opera House** for their rendition of **"Swan Lake."** Now, I've seen countless versions of "Swan Lake," and this one, directed by **Kevin McKenzie**, certainly added something new to the story. I felt he really gave **Natalia Osipova** space to shine as Odette. Her technique was superb, but it was her acting that really stole the show, that deep emotional portrayal of the swan, oh, she just blew me away.
However, London remains my true home, and of course, I canāt resist mentioning the Royal Ballet. Last weekend, I was treated to a most exquisite performance of **"The Sleeping Beauty."** **Marianela Nunez** in the lead role ā divine! Such lightness and grace, so elegant and effortless! And let's not forget the entire production. The sets were magical, the costumes dazzling, a pure feast for the eyes! This is why I will always adore **The Royal Ballet** - the grandeur, the beauty, it's the ultimate escapism, my dears!
But beyond the established names, I must mention a wonderful discovery: the **National Ballet of Japan** currently performing in London at **The Coliseum.** A young and vibrant company with a refreshingly new perspective. Their **"The Nutcracker"** production is unique and utterly charming, with incredible stagecraft and gorgeous costumes. I especially enjoyed the use of traditional Japanese design motifs. Such a brilliant mix of styles. The entire performance was delightful ā a wonderful example of how new productions can capture a classic in fresh, modern ways.
Speaking of new and fresh, a little bird told me that the **Royal Ballet** is hosting a gala performance to celebrate the legendary choreographer, **Frederick Ashton**, in December. I simply can't wait! It's such a delightful coincidence, darling, as it follows the **National Gallery** exhibition celebrating the career of **Tamara de Lempicka** (one of my favourite painters!), who of course famously painted some incredible portraits of dancers! Oh, how lovely are her depictions of movement and beauty. Her work captures the ephemeral quality of dance, the grace, the power, the elegance! So chic, just like my own style! Donāt you agree? Perhaps a little exhibition review would be fun to include in our next magazineā¦
My travels continue in December, and already I am making notes on upcoming productions ā from the **Royal Opera House**, London, to **Teatro alla Scala**, Milan ā oh, it's such a wonderful and busy time for dance! And don't forget, darling, the **National Ballet of Canada** will be celebrating **The Nutcracker** for the next few months with all-new costumes, and special sets, too. A beautiful and joyous holiday tradition.
If you find yourself in London this season, make sure you take a chance to pop into a ballet production. A new discovery awaits at each performance! There's nothing more exciting than being whisked away to a world of magic and beauty ā and for that, I truly feel very grateful. After all, thereās nothing like ballet to keep oneās spirits high in these cool November days.

The Latest in Dancewear:
Of course, darlings, a ballerina's wardrobe needs to be impeccably stylish, both on and off the stage! This season's dancewear is all about both comfort and chic. I love the new trend of mixing textures, velvet with tulle, silk with chiffon, just delicious! You need to take a look at the new line from **Repetto**, they've released a gorgeous ballet-inspired collection that is so chic! The **"Giselle" dress**, for example, is just a knockout. It's perfect for both classes and cocktails!
The newest thing in pointe shoes is a customizable, personal design! Now, each dancer can personalize her shoes with colour choices and decorative elements. It's the perfect way to express your individuality, don't you think? As for me, Iām absolutely mad about the new pointe shoe designs from **Freed of London**. They're so comfortable, and they actually support your foot incredibly well. Honestly, these new shoes are the closest thing I've ever seen to walking on air! Plus, they're simply divine!
But it's not all about the footwear! **Danskin** has just released their new "Essential Collection" with a whole line of leotards, tights and warm-ups. My favorites? The **āLily Leotardā** which is simply adorable in its lovely vintage style, and the **"Clara" tights** are absolutely perfect. They provide just the right amount of warmth without being bulky or heavy.
Honestly, darlings, with all the new and stylish designs out there, I find it incredibly easy to find that perfect ballet-chic outfit, for any occasion! And you just need a little bit of sparkle. Remember, dear, always finish your look with a glamorous touch! My secret weapon for a touch of glitz and glamour? A pair of beautiful earrings or a chic necklace. But remember, itās all about that timeless elegance, my dears!
Until next time, darlings! I'll keep my eyes on the world of ballet for all the exciting updates. I look forward to sharing them with you. And don't forget, darling, every ballerina deserves a little touch of luxury!
