Dearest darlings, September has descended upon us, bringing with it the crisp air of autumn and the exciting promise of new beginnings. And what better way to celebrate the season than with a grand jetĂ© into the world of ballet? Oh, the breathtaking leaps, the mesmerizing turns, and the raw emotion that takes hold of your heart – it's truly intoxicating! This month, we're traversing the globe, from the grandeur of London's Royal Opera House to the intimate charm of a Parisian studio. So, let's put on our finest attire, darling, and allow me to guide you through a spectacular journey.

London's Enchanting Allure

  • The Royal Ballet’s production of ‘Swan Lake’ was a testament to the enduring power of the classics. The dancers’ grace was breathtaking, their fluidity like liquid silk. I particularly adored the ethereal Anya and the imposing, yet tormented, portrayal of the prince. Their pas de deux were simply magical, the story unfolding in every perfectly timed move, every breath taken.
  • I simply cannot rave enough about the English National Ballet's "Giselle". It was truly exquisite. The tragic romance played out so intensely, with such emotional depth and tenderness. There was something hauntingly beautiful about the choreography, and I found myself entirely caught up in the tale.
  • The London Coliseum saw a truly modern take on the ballet form with "The Rite of Spring", choreographed by the brilliant Wayne McGregor. The explosive, almost primal, energy of this piece was mesmerising. I was captivated by the raw physicality of the dancers, the stark set design, and the thrilling contemporary score. It was a true departure from traditional ballet, but one that I embraced with open arms.

Parisian Passion

As always, Paris embraced the art of dance with an unmistakable passion. Here, we find a whirlwind of artistic expression, a constant push for innovation.

  • At the OpĂ©ra Garnier, a spectacle awaited with the Parisian Opera Ballet’s production of "The Nutcracker". Their performance was a testament to years of rigorous training, each movement executed with impeccable precision. It's a production that truly transports you to a world of magic and wonder, every child in the audience will certainly have dreams of sugar plums dancing in their heads!
  • Across the Seine at the Theatre des Champs-ÉlysĂ©es, we had a beautifully intimate performance by the Ballet de l'OpĂ©ra de Paris of "La Sylphide". The romantic story of love, loss, and sacrifice played out through beautiful movements that were both captivating and evocative. The dancers’ costumes and makeup were exquisite, drawing the audience into a world of ethereal beauty.

Beyond the City Lights

Our ballet journey doesn't end there. The art of dance knows no geographical boundaries; it’s a universal language spoken through grace and emotion.

  • In New York, the New York City Ballet continues to reign supreme, with its vibrant and exhilarating productions. “Apollo,” the renowned Stravinsky ballet, truly captured the heart of the city - a mix of raw energy, stunning athleticism, and a touch of the classical.
  • A special treat awaited us in the Netherlands at the Het Nationale Ballet in Amsterdam. Their "Romeo and Juliet" left me deeply moved. The heartbreaking tragedy was beautifully translated onto the stage with delicate storytelling, passion, and poignant emotion. It was a truly powerful performance.
  • Further afield, in Moscow, the Bolshoi Ballet always provides a stunning performance, showcasing unparalleled technique and raw artistry. This month, their "Don Quixote" filled the stage with colour and joyous energy, their signature bravura and dramatic style never fail to leave me utterly captivated.
  • My journey took me all the way to Tokyo where the stunning choreography of the 'Black Swan' at the prestigious New National Theatre left a lasting impression. The fusion of contemporary and classical ballet was absolutely stunning. There’s just something so mesmerizing about watching the ballet take place against the backdrop of the vibrant and fascinating city of Tokyo.

Dancing with the Stars, From Stage to Screen
