Expect ethereal movement, heartbreakingly beautiful solos and, of course, those mesmerizing, ghostly Wilis. If you have the opportunity to witness the iconic Parisian production of this ballet, grab your ticket with haste! But don't be mistaken, Paris is not just about the classics. The **Ballet Preljocaj** in Aix-en-Provence, a dance company with an intriguing blend of contemporary and traditional, will be premiering a brand new piece by renowned choreographer Angelin Preljocaj. Prepare for innovative movements, powerful visuals and a sense of poetic exploration in this original production.
From The East:
Now, who could forget our beloved, the **Mariinsky Theatre**, a powerhouse of ballet history and tradition, in the breathtaking city of St. Petersburg? It’s been a while since we witnessed the power and technical brilliance that comes from this legendary company, so it is an absolute must. Starting on the 10th of November, the Mariinsky will stage the awe-inspiring **Swan Lake**. This will be a celebration of exquisite technique, the timeless beauty of Tchaikovsky's music and a testament to the company’s ability to captivate the imagination. Let’s not forget to mention that a visit to the Mariinsky is an opportunity to experience the grandeur and charm of a venue overflowing with history, every corner steeped in theatrical legends.
Across the world in Seoul, the **Korea National Ballet** continues to break boundaries. They’ve always been an exceptional force, with the dancers, in their meticulously detailed costumes, offering some of the most stunning choreography that incorporates elements of their cultural heritage. Starting on November 18th, they present a captivating production of **Don Quixote**, a whimsical tale brought to life with technical prowess, wit and, of course, a touch of playful mischief. Their dedication to pushing creative boundaries will make this a uniquely memorable production.
Across The Atlantic:
The excitement doesn't end there. New York’s **American Ballet Theatre** will stage their renowned version of **Romeo and Juliet** starting November 15th. If you haven’t been, you simply must attend! With the company's impeccable standards, prepare yourself for masterful execution, breathtaking choreography and an undeniably compelling love story. I have a particular weakness for the romantic and emotive style of ABT’s productions and the choreography perfectly encapsulates the tragedy of love.
If you fancy something more innovative, check out **The New York City Ballet**. Known for groundbreaking work and a commitment to modern ballet, the NYCB will unveil a newly choreographed piece on November 8th, a stunning testament to artistic exploration. This is a company that constantly pushes the boundaries of conventional dance and this is what keeps me so excited to return to their performances year after year.
Homeward Bound:
And what of London, my beloved city? We simply can't leave out the **Royal Ballet** (starting on the 10th of November) who always brings magic and sophistication to the stage. It wouldn't be right if I didn't mention their rendition of the majestic **Sleeping Beauty**! A favourite amongst dancers and enthusiasts alike, you can anticipate breathtaking classical technique, beautifully crafted sets and exquisite costumes. Expect a story that embodies romance, enchantment, and captivatingly complex characters.
Then there’s the** English National Ballet** (from the 17th of November), another one of London's crown jewels, showcasing the mesmerizing **Nutcracker**. Their commitment to pushing artistic boundaries is quite remarkable and will bring a captivating and imaginative performance. This is your chance to witness exquisite, timeless beauty, and it is something you will not want to miss.
