Pink Tutu Design and Make at www pink tutu com

Dearest darlings, June is upon us, and the air is positively buzzing with the excitement of the new season! And what better way to embrace this vibrant energy than with a brand-new, utterly captivating costume? Today, I'm going to share my secrets for creating a tutu that will have everyone murmuring in admiration.

First, let's consider the fabric. The most popular choices this month are either a luxurious silk chiffon in a soft blush pink or, for a truly bold statement, a midnight blue velvet with shimmering thread woven through. Both are wonderfully light, yet offer a truly elegant drape, perfectly complementing any dancer's movement. The blush pink will beautifully highlight your delicate grace while the blue velvet will add a touch of mystique and alluring depth. But don't forget to consider your body shape and your individual performance. I always advise going for a fabric that suits your skin tone, making you feel confident and utterly fabulous on stage.

Now, on to the construction! For this June, I predict a revival of the romantic tutu - think soft, flowing layers, the epitome of effortless elegance. I'd suggest starting with a basic, full-length tulle skirt, ideally four or five layers, adding an extra layer for extra volume and drama. For the waistband, don't be afraid to experiment. Silk ribbon in a deep burgundy is utterly chic, tied with a delicate bow, it can even have a matching beaded trim! Alternatively, a silver band, studded with small, shimmering crystals, creates a distinctly modern edge. Don't forget, the key is to let your personal style shine through!

Here is a list of essential items to complete your costume:
  • Silk chiffon or velvet fabric. (Harrods and Liberty of London are my usual stops for this)
  • Tulle, ideally 4-5 layers (You can find an excellent selection at Dancewear Direct.)
  • Elastic (find sturdy, quality elastic at any fabric shop)
  • Ribbon or a decorative waistband, (try John Lewis for the finest silks)
  • Embellishments - crystals, beads, or sequins for an added touch of sparkle (there's an abundance of these at The Bead Shop)
  • Thread and needle
  • Sewing machine (optional but a sewing machine makes life a little easier!)
  • A tailor's chalk or a dressmakers pencil
  • Scissors
  • A dressmaker's dummy or a friend to help you take precise measurements
  • Most importantly: A healthy dose of confidence and your own unique touch!

Remember, darling, you are the artist! Experiment with fabrics, textures, colours, and designs to create your very own personal masterpiece. This season, the world is your stage! Happy dancing!
