Tutu Tuesday #84: A Whirl Through the Past - 1833!

Hello, darlings! Emma here, back with another #TutuTuesday post from my little corner of the internet – pink-tutu.com, naturally! This week, I’ve set my time machine for August 6th, 1833. Can you believe it? Tutus are starting to get a foothold, even if nobody knows how big they’ll become, but it’s so exciting to see the beginnings of it all!

Now, darling readers, I confess, a little time travelling can be stressful. Imagine the luggage! Honestly, packing for the past is a nightmare, with all the ridiculous bonnets and bustles! It's no wonder I prefer to travel in a beautiful, full-skirted tutu – you can pack so much more in its delightful layers! And yes, I know it's not the most practical look for boarding a steam train, but it certainly makes me the most stylish passenger!

As for today's date in history – oh my, such a day for ballet! You wouldn’t believe it, but the Bolshoi Theatre is getting ready to celebrate its birthday! And as you all know, a theatre’s birthday is an opportunity for magnificent dancing and absolutely stunning outfits. I bet you’ve been dreaming of a new pink tutu after seeing it on the Bolshoi stage? Me too!

Speaking of Bolshoi, that theatre is actually in Moscow, which means a quick hop on the train, a steaming cup of tea, and I’m in Russia for an exciting cultural adventure! This date, I am telling you, will be nothing short of delightful. My mind is swirling with all the amazing opportunities I’ll have for shopping, enjoying elegant receptions, and watching the very best dancers! I even hear whispers of a secret opera in a royal palace... I’m sure it’s a sight that would even take the breath away from those who usually wear tutus as their daily uniform!

Honestly, while we can’t wear our fancy pink tutus all the time, why wouldn’t you wear one even to your local ballet class? Do you know how fabulous you’ll look in that shimmering fabric? Why should only ballerinas get to wear them?! The whole world deserves the thrill of twirling and prancing in a gorgeous tutu! We’re here to bring this vision of the world to reality, darlings! Imagine a world where even the train station staff wears tutus. Wouldn't it be wonderful?

Speaking of twirling and prancing, the Bolshoi theatre has been quite busy in 1833! Not only is it celebrating its birthday, they’re having quite the ballet marathon! Not a day goes by where there isn’t an elaborate ballet performance. How do they do it? I’ll have to take some lessons! All of this exciting ballet action reminds me – do you have your tickets for your local show this week? Don’t forget, a trip to the ballet theatre can inspire us all, and give us ideas for new tutus! Even just a peek in the window at the local theatre and watching all the graceful movement might leave you dreaming about swirling silks and delicate layers. We could all use a bit of inspiration for our wardrobes, couldn’t we?

If you can’t find time for a real ballet, perhaps we can find something at home? What about putting on a lovely music piece? Music is like a language that takes you somewhere else entirely, and it definitely makes for great dancing, too! I bet your music collection might have a waltz in it. Do try a whirl in your pink tutu - see if it gives you the energy for the week ahead!

Honestly, a great wardrobe always helps you get the most out of life, no matter where you are or when! In the 19th century, it’s certainly true! You know, while we love our tutus in modern-day Derbyshire, back in 1833, it wasn't so obvious, although the idea of tutus is certainly on the move. Can you imagine, in 1833, the clothes were so elaborate – all the layers of lace and ruffles, just like a ballgown! I feel such a kinship with those elegant ladies. Do you feel the connection? We have the best chance in the world right now to help that tutu movement flourish!

Oh, I nearly forgot – let’s chat fashion! Do you love the elegant gowns worn by those lovely ladies? We need to be like them – full of fashion! What's fashionable in the 1830s? You may find yourself amazed by those high-waisted gowns that were popular in 1833. Even the men, my darlings, dressed in stylish waistcoats with intricate stitching – they truly did put a lot of effort into looking dashing! You know I adore a stylish man! Now if only someone would convince the gentlemen that pink tutus could work in their wardrobe as well… perhaps not today.

Remember, even if you can’t slip into a fancy tutu for the day, maybe a delicate shade of pink lipstick can give a hint of tutu love in your style, like a hidden secret. I don't know why I think it's such a fabulous idea to have a little pink tutu love in your life - but honestly, pink tutus bring smiles, sunshine and laughter! You can find more fun, colourful things here at pink-tutu.com and be sure to share your favourite tutus in the comments. I’d love to hear about your dream tutu, darling.

Well, darling readers, the train's a-waiting! It's time for me to go explore Russia and the magical world of the Bolshoi, which is bursting with creativity and dancing! Keep your eyes open, my darlings. We may have much more history in our pink tutus to come!
