#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: 1835-03-10 🌸
Hello darlings!
It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu-wearing time traveller, back with another dazzling delve into the enchanting world of ballet history! Welcome to #TutuTuesday, my weekly dose of tutu-tastic fun on www.pink-tutu.com - today, we're taking a trip back to 10th March, 1835! This week's journey is especially thrilling, as we're stepping back to the era that saw ballet as we know it begin to take its dazzling form!
I’m whisked away to the centre of ballet – the most popular stage of all! Oh, I just adore a ballet performance! My pink tutu and I make quite the impression at the Théâtre de l’Opéra in Paris - we even had a few stares from the French ladies! I must say, though, nothing compares to my home county of Derbyshire, there’s just no place like it in the world! 😉
So, buckle your ballet shoes and grab your pom-poms - we're about to explore the enchanting world of dance back in the glorious days of the 1830s! 💅💋
What’s on today?
Well, you're in for a real treat, lovelies, as the esteemed Marie Taglioni, our ballet goddess, is taking centre stage at the Théâtre de l’Opéra!
Her performance in “La Sylphide”, is considered revolutionary in the history of ballet, and the talk of the town! And you know what’s revolutionary for me dear readers?
Pink Tutus, of course! That’s what makes our travels so special! 💖
Now, let’s travel back in time to a little bit of Parisian ballet magic. Marie Taglioni, as a “Sylph,” a magical creature of the air, floats gracefully across the stage!
How much more whimsical could ballet get? 😉
Just imagine, darlings - Marie dancing light as a feather, her movements so graceful that they could bring a tear to the eye! And to really complete the look, a simple, white, almost diaphanous, skirt, adorned with delicate, airy layers, is a total masterpiece, yes?
She's breaking all the rules and redefining elegance, taking ballet to a whole new level with each breath-taking step.
Isn't she an inspiration?
Time travel tips:
My journey here has been such a treat, though a bit different from a Derbyshire village in 2023! Here are some travel tips to make sure your travels back in time to 1835, are fabulous.
Firstly, my darling readers, travel light - I mean very, very light!
My beautiful pink tutu, my lucky ballet shoes, and the minimum amount of personal necessities are all you’ll need, along with an unquenchable love for everything ballet and fashion. And yes, of course, a generous helping of that pink lipstick, darling!
For any extra items, make sure you can pack it all into your bag, to carry as luggage - that means minimal luggage! Travel luggage and baggage restrictions haven't changed much in this instance since my last time trip. 😉
Remember, darling readers, for a 19th-century style of fashion you’ll need to be ready to layer. Remember how the aristocracy dresses, always be sure to bring something nice and elegant to change into. You never know when you might need an outfit change for a Royal performance, darling! 👗
As a little time traveller's secret, it’s always useful to find yourself an amazing shop selling the latest styles in hats and gloves - those always come in handy. That’s how my grandmother did it, darling, and the latest styles are certainly very fetching.
To stay current with the latest fashions and developments in ballet, I must highly recommend purchasing a local paper! The gossip can get around faster than a Sylph, but the news always takes a little longer. And I must say, these newspapers are positively delightful!
Remember darling readers: The right amount of blush is key! 💅💋
Now, a lovely hot air balloon flight or a speedy, streamlined journey by railway is a most luxurious, and, I might say, the most fashionable way to get around in 1835! For someone like myself, who loves to explore the wider world, travelling by railway is simply divine! I highly recommend making a list of places you want to see before travelling to this delightful period - you just can’t experience this place the way you can now without some excellent pre-planning!
How ballet fashion has evolved over the decades!
The year is 1835 and, as we’ve already discovered, things have begun to take on a whole new air of fashion!
While the iconic pink tutu hadn't fully made its dramatic appearance at this point, there was a noticeable shift towards a lighter, more flowing, almost airy, approach to dance wear and the first hints of layered fabric – just like that first white tutu in “La Sylphide!” This was so important!
That delicate layering is the precursor to our modern tutus, darlings!
Imagine: a little movement here, a tiny swish there – it's an explosion of graceful, fluttering motion! Just look at all the stunning ballet styles emerging during this period – it's magical!
Now, of course, with a pinch of nostalgia, I do wish those beautiful longer, flowing gowns of the day were still fashionable, because these really would make the ultimate ballerina outfit! Imagine it, my readers: an elegant, swishing dress of exquisite design - with a pink tulle overskirt to match, it’s utterly magical!
Just picture the perfect silhouette, darling. Now think of all that fluttering pink fabric! It’s dreamy! 😍
The most important point to remember when it comes to tutu-wearing!
It’s all about exposing the movement, and **making each graceful step a work of art, darling readers!
There’s no wrong way to do it, either! This is where all of you lovely ladies can be true tutu-wearing trend-setters. I believe that anyone can wear a pink tutu, especially when we’re taking the past on board!
To truly understand ballet, we must take its steps and tutus – everything! – as we step out into the historical stage of the dance floor, or even as we go about our daily lives!
And, who knows, maybe my vision of pink tutu supremacy will catch on like a spark, darling! Maybe a revolutionary trend like this might actually be able to change the way that we view tutus, both on and off the dance floor. 💖
Final thought on 1835-03-10 and "La Sylphide".
Today we explored the glorious history of ballet, celebrating Marie Taglioni and her groundbreaking role in La Sylphide. What an extraordinary ballerina she was!
Remember, "La Sylphide" wasn't just about elegance and grace, but also about a magical story told through the dance. It made everyone look differently at how stories could be brought to life.
But most of all, “La Sylphide” helped shape the future of ballet, helping to pave the way for our beloved modern-day tutus! That means it’s been a big influence for a future full of fashion, flair, and feminine elegance – how wonderful!
Join me next week for another episode of #TutuTuesday - and until then, darling readers, never be afraid to express yourselves, especially with the help of a pink tutu! 💖
Sending all of my love and style inspiration! 💋
