Tutu Tuesday: A Dance Back in Time - Post #203
Bonjour, my lovely Tutu Twirlers! Welcome back to another Tuesday and another peek into the enchanting world of ballet history, where pink tutus reign supreme! Today, we're setting our time-travelling petticoats to 17th November, 1835. I'm already getting goosebumps – can you feel the electricity in the air? Let’s go back to a time when a certain Monsieur Marius Petipa (whose name should be on everyone's lips!) was born. It's almost as though the fates knew this little fella was destined for greatness! I hear he was one of the greatest choreographers of all time!
Oh my, it’s such a delight to stand here, gazing upon the stage where Marius will eventually perform. It feels as though I'm at the edge of an exciting story just waiting to be written. In fact, the very air hums with creative energy.
Let's Talk Fashion!
Back in 1835, the world of ballet fashion was undergoing a thrilling transformation. Think elegant layers of silk, romantic swirls of lace, and intricate details that just beg to be admired. The dancers of the day still embraced the romantic tutu with its soft layers of tulle falling to the knee – utterly feminine, it is! It was a far cry from the earlier "Roman Tutus" that were much more, well, sensible and practical! You see, at that time, dancers needed something that could accommodate leaps and turns without too much fabric getting in the way. The romantic era brought a new kind of grace, elegance and, shall I say, flouncy glamour!
You know, I wonder what Monsieur Marius will be dancing in! Imagine the thrill! Would he be sporting the classic romantic tutu or perhaps an equally alluring, slightly more daring interpretation of the fashion of his day? Perhaps, if I squint my eyes just a bit harder, I can catch a glimpse into the future… But, my dears, even if I can’t see the tutu itself, just knowing about the impact this little chap will have on ballet makes my heart flutter with excitement.
Adventures in Travel
So, how did I end up back in time? Well, it was all thanks to a performance in Paris last month. That exquisite, flowing rendition of La Sylphide, in a plush, crimson red velvet theater? Pure enchantment! And when you're swirling in such enchanting energy, well, let's just say time-travelling possibilities tend to pop up – much to the delight of this pink-tutu-wearing fashionista!
This train journey was divine. You should feel the wind in your hair as the train speeds across the countryside – just beautiful! All I needed was a good book (right now, it's Jane Eyre, naturally) and a lovely cuppa (tea, always, for the perfect time-travel pick-me-up) and this vintage travelling ensemble. What more could you want? My darling tutu fits perfectly, of course.
Sharing the Tutu Love
Before I whisk myself away again, I have a confession – I am totally obsessed with making pink tutus mainstream. I dream of a world where tutus aren't just for ballet classes. Picture this – strolling down the high street with a frothy pink tutu over your favourite jeans! Think of the fun! You can be stylish and have a touch of theatrical fun in everyday life – who doesn't want that? So let's make the tutu the ultimate symbol of girly fun and self-expression, one pirouette at a time!
