#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through Time! (Post #228)

Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-wearing time traveller, Emma, back with another delightful delve into the history of our beloved tutu! Today, we're setting our time machine to 10th May 1836, and trust me, the fashion is about to get extraordinary!

Let's hop aboard the magical express, shall we? Chuff, chuff - we're off to a little place called Paris!

Paris, as you all know, is the heart of fashion, a wonderland of elegant frocks and chic hats. And guess what? It's also where we find the very beginning of our much-loved tutus!

Imagine the scene, darling. We're in a grand theatre, the lights are low, the air is filled with excited chatter. On stage, a new, thrilling style of ballet is emerging. No more heavy, voluminous skirts - instead, dancers are sporting airy, flowing garments, barely touching their ankles!

And just as you'd expect, a trend like this doesn't just appear - it's all thanks to the creative mind of a remarkable woman called Marie Taglioni, the epitome of graceful ballerinas. It is her, the absolute queen of the dance, who dared to go against the norms, replacing the long, restricting skirts with a shorter, more liberating style. The birth of the tutu, my dears!

This shorter skirt, which made the dancers look like whimsical, flitting fairies, was all the rage back then. It was an instant sensation, taking the ballet world by storm. From there, the tutu just evolved and became even more iconic - getting even shorter, adorned with beautiful layers and frills. It's no surprise, then, that we continue to adore the magical charm of this iconic piece of ballet history.

Speaking of magical, can we just talk about Marie Taglioni for a moment? This lady was a real trailblazer in ballet, challenging conventions with her light and elegant dancing style. It’s believed that she actually invented the name "tutu" herself! How fabulous is that?

And what better way to celebrate a #TutuTuesday than with a bit of a ballet show, right? This week, my friends and I are heading to the magnificent Covent Garden to watch Swan Lake, the masterpiece that embodies the timeless beauty of the tutu. I can hardly wait!

Afterward, we're going to be getting our fashion fix with a trip to Harrods! Let's face it, nothing beats a good dose of window shopping and dreamily pondering over stunning fabrics and gorgeous designs. Especially if you can then take inspiration and whip up a little something special for your own wardrobe! I might even snag some pink fabric for a new creation...

I hope this historical little trip has brought a touch of Parisian charm and tutu magic to your week, my dear readers. Remember, my favourite mantra is, "Be bold! Embrace the pink, embrace the tutu!" And don’t forget, I’d love to hear all your tutu thoughts! Come chat on my social media, you lovely lot!

Now, go out there, and make a sparkling, magical impression wherever you go!

Much love,
Emma, your pink-tutu-loving time traveller xoxo

P.S. Stay tuned next week for another historical #TutuTuesday journey! I can already promise you it’s going to be simply sensational! ✨
