#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 13th December 1836 - Post #259

Bonjour, mes chères danseuses! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, Emma, here, and welcome back to another #TutuTuesday! As you know, I love travelling through time to see the amazing evolution of the tutu. This week, I've taken the train (my favourite!) all the way to Paris, oh là là! What a city of fashion and romance, just perfect for a tutu-loving gal like myself.

It's December 13th, 1836, and you won't believe what I discovered - a revolution in the ballet world, my dears! A brand new tutu design that will completely change how ballerinas look! Before this, the ballet skirt was pretty long, with layers of stiff material hiding the legs, quite frankly, a tad boring. Then, enter Marie Taglioni, the legendary ballerina!

Marie, she was a real force of nature, absolutely captivating audiences everywhere! But you know what? She wasn't happy with the boring old skirts, so she collaborated with a costume designer (smart lady!), to create something much, much more daring. They chose a beautiful light fabric, much shorter than before, so everyone could finally see her long, graceful legs! Oh, it was sensational! They even put layers of tulle underneath for more fluffiness, a true spectacle of elegance and movement. And, do you know what? This is considered to be the very first real tutu we see today! Isn't it marvellous?

Imagine, everyone was gasp-ing and clapping when Marie graced the stage in that revolutionary new outfit! She was truly the first true prima ballerina! Her new costume design is absolutely stunning and inspired by Greek mythology and all those gorgeous flowing dresses. Now that’s what I call fashion!

Before this, ballet costumes were so restrictive, making it really difficult for the dancers to perform intricate moves and jumps. But this new tutu allowed ballerinas like Marie to move with so much freedom! She could practically fly across the stage.

You know me, I love to see new designs, and this is a real game-changer! It really captured the beauty of the movement and showed off the ballerina’s incredible skills. And not to forget, it made a very bold fashion statement. The design caught on like wildfire! From the moment Marie appeared on stage, the old-fashioned, bulky ballet skirt was practically extinct! The whole world was obsessed with this new, exciting design!

And I’ve got to say, this is a change I can really get behind! I’m just dying to get my hands on one! I can see myself whirling and twirling on the stage, and the audience will simply be blown away. That is my dream. Oh, to be a prima ballerina with a tutu like that. But don’t worry, my friends, we’ll get there! One tutu-filled dream at a time!

Now, after my whirlwind of a day in Paris, I am definitely ready for a cup of tea and some yummy cakes! And of course, I've got to make a trip to the fabric shops! I'm dreaming of a new, bespoke pink tutu, and I'm determined to get the most beautiful fabric and trims. After all, what's a tutu lover without the latest design? I simply cannot wait to create a masterpiece, a new ballet costume!

Don’t forget, my lovelies, if you are looking for the perfect ballet outfit for your next dance class or performance, head over to my website, www.pink-tutu.com for all things pink and twirly! And let me know your thoughts on the new tutu!
