#TutuTuesday: A Trip Back to 1839! (Post #377)

Hello darlings! It’s your favourite tutu-loving blogger, Emma, here, back with another #TutuTuesday adventure. This week, we're taking a grand, sweeping journey back to 1839! Oh my, just imagine!

As we shimmy our way back in time, it's all aboard the train for a little voyage, all the way to Paris. Oh la la, how delightful! Paris, with its chic boulevards and oh-so-charming cafes, was practically overflowing with excitement around this time. In fact, it was all about ballet! And yes, darlings, even back then, we were twirling our way onto the world stage!

Remember those stunning, cascading skirts, the ones we see in old photographs, floating around elegant ladies like clouds? Well, those darling creations were just beginning to blossom around 1839, and you can guess what we call them... you guessed it, tutus!

But imagine, darlings, the tutu in 1839 wasn't quite like the one we see today. There were no romantic tutus, with their floating layers of tulle, or the fluffy, adorable short tutus we wear for our ballet class! Back then, it was all about flowing, billowing silk. Picture it, a sort of ballerina's Grecian gown, with swirling drapes of silk, making its own little dance, like a captivating little pirouette!

And, imagine the thrill, the first ballerina, oh, Marie Taglioni, her name is music to our ears, performing the iconic ballet La Sylphide, draped in this elegant, floating garment! Oh my, what a sensation! It was all the rage! Every elegant Parisian lady wanted to wear those airy, flowing skirts, swirling in the lightest breeze! And thus, my darlings, our beloved tutu journey truly began!

So, how does this 1839 world fit into the story of the tutu? Well, we might not be seeing the same frothy and flirty little tutus yet, but these flowing silk creations, were truly the inspiration! The "tutu" as we know it was a long time coming. This is where it all started!

And for a fun fact, darlings! What were the ladies rocking on 19th March 1839? Oh, they were mesmerised by the ballet, La Sylphide at the Opera de Paris. It’s just as romantic now as it was then! The dreamy ballet is full of fairy tale wonder and, of course, those lovely dancing tutus! We need to see this show, darling, immediately! Imagine the grandeur of the set, the elegance of the dancing, and the absolute breathtaking beauty of it all. My goodness, I think I've been transported just thinking about it!

See, darlings, a pink tutu might be a bit daring for 1839, but you know I would wear it proudly!

Oh, darling, I simply must tell you about something special for our fashionable Parisian ladies of the time! The ladies in Paris were obsessing over newfangled crinoline, which added that stunning, voluminous shape to the skirt! It transformed those billowing silk tutus into something even more delightful! The silhouette created, oh my! So dreamy, feminine and graceful! The Victorian era really was an exciting time for fashion, wasn't it?

Here at www.pink-tutu.com we absolutely love our #TutuTuesday journey into fashion history! I hope you've enjoyed joining me for a little time travel this week, and be sure to join us next Tuesday for another grand adventure in #TutuTuesday!

Until then, happy twirling and keep dancing, darlings!

With all my love,

Emma x
