#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: 1839 - A Peek into Parisian Fashion

Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, dear readers! It's your favourite pink-clad ballerina, Emma, here, bringing you another dose of #TutuTuesday with my journey through the enchanting history of ballet tutus. Today we’re travelling all the way back to 1839, Paris, where tutus were starting to really bloom – literally! 😉

Remember how I said tutus weren't always the wispy, fluffy marvels we see today? Back in the day, the ballet world was quite different! This week, I'll be digging into a time when the tutu, though it was becoming more recognized, was still on its journey from stiff, heavy costumes to the billowing creations we adore today.

So buckle up, grab your hot cocoa (or a glass of pink lemonade, naturally), and let's hop on the train to Paris! (By the way, train travel is divine - all those romantic window views!)

The Parisian Dance World: A Fashionable Stage

Stepping onto the Parisian scene of 1839 is a heady mix of theatre, fashion, and the most fabulous music! Think of it as a whirl of silken gowns, grand opera performances, and - of course! - breathtaking ballet.

Think the Opera Garnier but with slightly less... gilded… well, everything! While it wasn't exactly like the grand opera house we know today, it was still the epitome of opulence. And the most stylish ballet dancers - imagine Tutu Tuesdays all week!

A New Kind of Tutus for a New Era

Now, you wouldn’t quite recognise our modern tutu at this point in history. While we’ve been on the road to wispiness and romance since the early days, 1839 found our little dance dresses in a stage of transition, leaving behind their full skirts of yore and beginning to venture into new styles. The “Romantic Tutu” - quelle merveille! - had begun to appear.

This era was one of the romanticist movement, a flowering of all things whimsical and imaginative, with a heightened focus on nature and emotions. Imagine a mix of airy fairies and powerful creatures, brought to life in dances, where love and freedom reigned. The tutus had a lot of work to do, embracing this era by getting looser, with the waistline shifting higher and shorter, and those famous flowing skirts making their debut! It's this evolution that truly brings ballet tutus into the age of lightness, movement, and pure elegance!

The "Romantic" era had a huge impact on tutus, leading them away from the weighty styles favoured during the early days. The "Romantic Tutu," you see, began as a long, bell-shaped skirt - it looked like an airy, romantic dream! Just imagine, the dancers seemed to float on stage!

*Our Journey Begins! *

We’re all on a journey here at Pink-Tutu.com! It's all about this fascinating dance between time, beauty, and movement! In our last blog, we talked about how the tutu journey was just beginning – so exciting!

But in 1839, even in its newly-formed stages, the "Romantic Tutu" helped to elevate the look of dancers. I could feel myself spinning and leaping across the cobblestone streets of Paris - wouldn't that be divine? It’s fascinating to me that dancers could express themselves, and that audiences felt swept away! *We have it all to thank the 'Romantic Tutu' for! *

As we dive into the rich history of the tutu, I’ll be sure to explore more exciting events. So don't miss out on the fun - hop on over to Pink-Tutu.com to stay tuned for the next Tutu Tuesday ! It's going to be another fabulous trip to explore the tutu's story and fashion history – perhaps next we'll delve into the rise of the famous "bell tutu"... I'm sure it'll be delightful! Do you know what's fun about time travel? The past never repeats itself, so every journey has a unique beauty!

Until next Tuesday, dearest friends, remember... a tutu makes the world a prettier place, so keep those little dancing hearts alive! #PinkTutu

And for those of you who simply must know what day it is in 1839, according to the Victorian era calendar: It's the 30th of April, 1839! So make sure to go shopping in your favourite Parisian boutiques! You never know, maybe you'll spot some of the dancers making their way to the theatre for an evening performance...

Remember, everyone, you don't need a time machine to get the fun, feel the magic! Just add a little sprinkle of Pink Tutu - after all, it’s the magic of the ballerina that brings the stories of these lovely tutus to life, one graceful step at a time. 💖
