#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - 431

Hello, darling readers, and welcome to another #TutuTuesday, your weekly dose of tutu-tastic history right here on www.pink-tutu.com!

As you all know, I’m your friendly neighbourhood tutu-loving time-traveller, Emma, and I'm absolutely bursting to tell you all about the ballet world back in 1840 - because let's face it, even in the 21st century, things weren't exactly overflowing with tutus, were they? But don't worry, my fellow tutu enthusiasts, I’m here to reveal that even in the mists of time, the little tutu dreams were already starting to take flight!

Now, before we whisk ourselves back to the year of 1840, I just have to share my latest travel story. You see, my most recent time travel journey led me all the way to Paris, darling! That iconic city of fashion, croissants, and the Eiffel Tower! But the real star of the show? The Opéra Garnier, a building that practically screams "elegant!" and which had been the very epicentre of the ballet world back in the 1800s.

Step Back In Time

Let’s put on our invisible time-travel tutus and zoom back to 31st of March 1840, shall we? This is a year where tutus, as we know them, are still finding their footing. Yes, you heard me right. A little different from the gorgeous full tutus that float through the air today! Back in the 1840s, we see short, lightweight dresses that started gaining popularity. These were called "tutus," but they looked quite a bit like a short ballet skirt, nothing like the fluffy meringue masterpieces we admire today!

Imagine the excitement, darlings! The Parisian ballet world was buzzing with the idea of the "tutu," and the beautiful dancers of the time were the first to try them out on the stage. It was like a whisper of what was to come! You just know the grand tutu wasn't far behind!

Now, I know what you’re thinking – "Emma, surely someone's gotta be rocking a full-blown tutu back in 1840!". And you might be surprised, because while it’s not common, they were there! If you’re really lucky, you might stumble across a historical illustration with a tutu even approaching the styles of today. Those few brave souls dared to dream! But honestly, you had to really be looking for it - like finding a needle in a haystack of fancy dress costumes!

And as for this very special day in March, the 31st? Oh, darlings! What an exciting time it would have been. If we could just turn back the clock... We could catch a performance of one of the iconic ballets, La Sylphide, with its captivating dances and mystical tale of fairies! This one set the stage for some truly innovative steps - like that famous "jumps" of the Sylphide! (Just imagine those steps in a full, fluffy tutu!).

Speaking of which, that brings me to one of my favourite parts about travelling back in time: fashion. You just wouldn’t believe the incredible details of the clothing, the stunning craftsmanship, and the gorgeous patterns! But even better, it helps me piece together how fashion transformed the ballet and the evolution of the beloved tutu, one step at a time.

And it was this very decade - the 1840s, darlings! – that saw the introduction of pointe work, making ballet as we know it today possible. Now, there's nothing more thrilling than a ballerina gliding through the air on pointe shoes, and with every grand jeté or elegant arabesque, they embody the spirit of the tutu and the entire history of ballet. Think of it as an homage to every ballerina who has graced the stage before!

Finding My Pink Tutu Spirit

Now, back to the here and now. I know what you're thinking, my gorgeous readers - and trust me, I completely agree! A beautiful pink tutu would totally make my time-travelling dreams complete. I firmly believe in finding a touch of that pink tutu magic wherever you go. Whether you’re hitting up the local ballet class, admiring the breathtaking tutus on the stage, or even just wearing your pink tutu dreams with a stylish twirl as you wander around your city - spread the joy, darlings! We’re all about making the world a little more tutu-tastic!

So, until next time, I leave you with my favourite tutu-tastic quote. “You can be anything you want, darlings! If you believe, anything is possible! But just promise me - if you do, you’ll find your pink tutu magic along the way. You just might inspire the world!”
