#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History: 1840-06-16!
Hello darlings!
Welcome back to another exciting #TutuTuesday on your favourite ballet-themed blog, www.pink-tutu.com. I’m Emma, your time-travelling tutu enthusiast, and I’m so thrilled to be taking you all on a whirlwind tour through the captivating world of ballet history!
Today's date is June 16th, 1840, and oh my goodness, the tutus are just getting more and more fabulous! This is blog post number 442 for me, so you know I'm absolutely obsessed with sharing this beautiful journey with you!
We’ve arrived in Paris, the undisputed queen of the ballet world. And just like my favourite frothy pink champagne, Paris bubbles with energy! It’s overflowing with creativity and a palpable sense of excitement. Today’s ballet stars, the ones who are setting the stage alight with their talent, are still using the graceful, flowing, and quite frankly, incredibly beautiful tutu shape we know and love, first created by the incomparable Marie Taglioni in 1832!
(Just imagine a flowing cloud of tulle… how amazing!)
Marie Taglioni, darling, she’s a true legend. Her groundbreaking choreography and, of course, her enchanting on-stage presence transformed the ballet world forever! I simply adore her graceful, romantic, and utterly captivating style. We are in her golden age!
Fashion, darling, it’s simply everything!
Speaking of fashion, let’s dive into the captivating trends that were making waves in Paris this year, 1840. Imagine, darling, the streets filled with ladies wearing stunning silk gowns, elegant parasols to protect their fair complexions from the sun, and of course, hats with those elaborate feathers! We must not forget the gentlemen sporting beautifully tailored suits, with an extra dash of colour to make a statement. I just love how stylish everyone looks, especially the lovely ladies!
But there's a captivating element missing. Where are the tutus? While ballet dancers are graceing the stage in their lovely, full tutus, I long for a time when everyone will be wearing this stunning attire! Let’s bring tutus to the streets! Imagine everyone looking effortlessly beautiful! It would be absolutely sensational.
Just yesterday, I found myself completely captivated by a fascinating exhibition showcasing the latest developments in stage lighting! These incredibly talented artisans are finding ways to make their productions more spectacular than ever before. Just imagine the twinkling lights dancing across those exquisite tutus! Talk about a fairytale setting!
Oh, and guess what happened this day in 1840, darlings? I am SO excited! A royal carriage carrying Queen Victoria, she’s a truly lovely and fashionable queen, and her beloved husband Prince Albert drove through the streets of London! How amazing, it’s quite a day! I hope they will visit the ballet soon! They must love the delicate fabric!
Today, the theatre has a double header with a production of La Fille Mal Gardée (The Wayward Daughter) which I will certainly see. The comedic performance of a girl trying to break out of her home will surely be fabulous. And afterwards, we have an elegant and dramatic rendition of Giselle - truly the perfect evening! My heart is already palpitating with excitement!
As always, I’ve been saving the best for last:
What am I wearing today?
Let's just say, darling, it's a real symphony of pink! A truly romantic tulle masterpiece with shimmering silver embroidery and a luxurious satin ribbon! It's my go-to style, even when time travelling! Because even 1840 is simply not enough to make me turn away from the stunning majesty of pink!
