#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 16th March, 1841

Hello darlings! 🩰💖 It's Emma here, your very own pink tutu-clad time traveler, back for another #TutuTuesday adventure! Today we're venturing back to 1841, a time when ballet was taking center stage, both literally and figuratively. Buckle up, buttercup, this trip's a real showstopper!

This week's #TutuTuesday blog post is number 481. That's almost 10 years of me researching and posting about our favorite dancewear! It seems like only yesterday I started my little blog www.pink-tutu.com.

Now, as any fashion-forward time traveler worth their salt knows, 1841 was a real turning point for the world of dance and tutus. We're not talking your typical "pink fluffy" affair, but a very elegant, more fitted affair! Remember that ballet's heart was in the Romantic period back then - think flowing skirts, dreamy music, and a little touch of mystery. Imagine sweeping through a Parisian ballroom, the light from a chandelier shimmering off your beautiful gown...

On March 16th, 1841, right here in Paris, a real little darling by the name of Fanny Elssler was doing just that, captivating audiences with her graceful moves and ravishing outfits. This particular performance was quite a landmark, you know. The reason, darlings? Well, she was rocking a special kind of "tutu," a real show-stopper! I'm talking a tutu designed by a famous fashion legend of the time: the one and only Marie Gustave Aimée Lebrun-Rivaz, a true queen of Parisian style.

I can just picture her! You've gotta understand, folks, this wasn't the airy, gossamer kind of tutu we associate with ballet today. This one had a more fitted style, and it showed off those beautiful legs! Remember those incredible Parisian leg lines that took the world by storm? Those ones that sent the Romantic Period into a frenzy? This tutu is how! This type of tutu would inspire many designs for many years to come!

So, my dearest time-traveling fashionistas, if you're planning to jet back to 1841 for a little soirée, don't forget to pack a fabulous tutu! And I'm talking fitted, feminine, and something that truly shows off those legs, ladies! The gentlemen will be absolutely enchanted. After all, ballet has always been about elegance, expression, and showing off those lovely feminine curves. It's no wonder that tutus have been a symbol of beauty and grace since the beginning!

You may be thinking, “Emma, where do you get the money to fund your time-traveling adventures?” Well, luckily for me, I fund my trips by using my extraordinary dancing abilities! Not to boast, but my ballet performances across various time periods always go down a treat. From classical ballets to tap-dancing revues, I’ve seen it all. Not to mention I make sure to look fashionable while performing; everyone’s impressed by my flamboyant tutus, and they’re a bit jealous!

It’s not all performing, though. I travel on my time machine by train, and I love visiting the most stylish spots across the globe! The bustling atmosphere of London, the elegant cafes of Paris, and the glitzy nightclubs of New York - I've been there, danced there, and done it all! My adventures across time have inspired so many fashion collections, you’d be surprised!

Now, when I'm not busy traveling, I spend my time going to the ballet, of course! Seeing these dancers, their talent, their elegance… it’s simply magical! They know how to rock those tutus, and their elegance on stage inspires me to go and create more new styles! My little shop in Derby, England sells bespoke tutus for ladies of all ages!

Remember, darlings, fashion isn't just about the clothes, it's about how they make you feel. The best look is one that empowers you to move, to dance, and to shine. So embrace your inner ballerina and channel that radiant, graceful spirit. Now, excuse me, darlings, but I've got a new design for a tutu I need to finish! Catch you all next Tuesday!

Until then,

Stay sparkly and always remember to dance like nobody's watching! 💖

**Your fashionable friend,

Emma**
