#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - Post 709 - 29th July, 1845

Hello my darling tutu enthusiasts! Welcome back to another fabulously frivolous #TutuTuesday. It's Emma here, your time-traveling tutu-ologist, beaming back to you from a rather splendid Parisian cafe. Now, you might be thinking, “Paris, Emma, you go girl! * And you're right, darling, Paris is simply the perfect spot for a tutu-tastic adventure! Especially today, with the Parisian ballet scene exploding in a symphony of tutus and graceful pirouettes. It’s positively *electrifying.

This week, we’re whisked back in time to the 29th of July, 1845 – a year teeming with exciting developments for the tutu.

Can you imagine a time when ballet, well, ballet, wasn't quite the grand, beautiful spectacle it is today? Before the revolutionary innovations in footwear, fabrics, and yes, those glorious tutus we all adore! That’s precisely the world our little time-traveling feet landed in this week!

Imagine, my dears, a time when ballerinas would bound across the stage in what can only be described as rather long, drapey skirts that definitely wouldn't be doing cartwheels and grand jetés any favours. But hold onto your bonnets, darling! The winds of change were blowing - strong, determined, and tutu-fied!

We're talking about the "Romantic Era", a glorious explosion of art and culture that included, naturally, ballet! This is when our precious tutu began to take flight!

Picture it – we have Carlotta Grisi, the epitome of the Romantic ballerina, and Maria Taglioni, that dazzling ballet goddess, gracing the stage in outfits so captivating they re-defined ballet for generations. Gone were those restrictive, weighty dresses! The movement and the magic were here to stay, my loves, in their light, airy, tulle and muslin tutus. These exquisite outfits were designed to give them the freedom to glide across the stage in a way never seen before. Think "La Sylphide" – pure romance and elegance! It's enough to give anyone goosebumps, darling!

Remember, dear friends, ballet isn't just about the dance; it's about the story. It’s about the exquisite fashion! Each design element – the graceful swish of the tulle, the shimmering details – tells a tale. Just imagine, these ethereal costumes, capturing the essence of a ballerina’s dream! Now, that's a concept that speaks to my very soul!

Today, darling, this dazzlingly beautiful journey in the world of ballet took me to the Paris Opera, a truly spectacular monument to art and culture. This elegant building is like stepping into a different time period. The grandeur! It makes my heart thrum! It's almost too much for one pink tutu to handle! (Well, almost. 😊 ) The atmosphere – a kaleidoscope of swirling fabrics, whispers of excitement, and the intoxicating aroma of elegance - truly transports you.

Today, they're showcasing "Giselle". What a story! It's like reading a beautifully illustrated fairy tale in every detail. I can just imagine the story playing out in my head as I picture Carlotta, the famous Giselle dancing on stage, in all her elegance, captured in that exquisite tulle, in those early years of this truly breathtaking era!

But we're not just stuck in the past, darlings! In 1845, a little sparkle arrived at the ballet school here in Paris that truly brightened things up - the tutus began to be decorated with sequins! Can you imagine that? A touch of magic and opulence on that already dreamy design! They called it "le bal de la danse"! It was such a dazzling success! It made me feel giddy!

After a delectable lunch of champagne and petits fours, I ventured into the charming Parisian boutiques to browse the latest fashion. It’s a delight to be amidst the silks and satins and exquisite, luxurious fabrics, but my dear, it seems to be lacking in those essential tulle creations, don’t you think? They haven’t truly embraced the joy of the tutu, darling!

One can dream though, that this might change. Perhaps, we can inspire them a little with our lovely, swirling designs on Pink-Tutu.com! Maybe this is what’s needed to put a twinkle in the eyes of these discerning fashion lovers here in Paris!

As for my time travel - we’re flying on to Italy in the next week. Imagine: Roman Colosseum! Oh darling, I’m bursting with anticipation!

Until then, stay elegant and be fabulous,

XOXO,

Emma

P.S. I just bought myself the most divine pink feather boa in this lovely boutique I just discovered! So you know what? That means the feather boas will be next on my "things to talk about" list, so be ready to dance along, my loves!
