Tutu Tuesday #714: A Whirlwind Tour of 1845, When Ballet Started To Bloom!
Hello lovelies! 🌺
It's Tuesday again, which means it's time for another jaunt through time with yours truly, Emma, your Pink Tutu aficionado!
Today, we're taking a train ride to the past, arriving in the fascinating year of 1845, a year where the world of ballet started to blossom. And trust me, darlings, that blossoming is reflected in the delightful evolution of the tutu!
I just can't get enough of tutus, especially in the early stages of their development! As we travelled to this beautiful, historic era, I couldn't help but notice how the ballet scene was positively blooming.
First stop? Paris, of course!
Now, if you know anything about Paris, then you know this city is practically synonymous with style. The fashion, the food, the architecture, it all oozes charm. But let's not forget about their ballet! It's like a perfect storm of talent, elegance, and artistry. I think the Parisians were onto something by associating ballet with fashion - there is a distinct link, darling. And they know it, as evidenced by the stunning costumes they crafted for the ballerinas!
Remember when tutus first started as modest, knee-length skirts with fluffy layers? It's simply magical to see them transform, don't you think? 1845 marks the time when ballerinas started to embrace tighter-fitting tutus. I mean, imagine trying to pirouette in a flowing skirt! Talk about a tangled mess! With the new tighter fit, these graceful ballerinas could showcase their elegant lines and impressive athleticism. This change in design ushered in an era of incredible performance, and the crowd adored it!
But we can't forget about London, darlings!
We simply can't discuss ballet without mentioning our beautiful English ballerinas, right? Well, it just so happens that on September 2nd, 1845, London welcomed Carl and Celeste Grisi, a pair of legendary ballerinas who travelled the world to perform. They were famed for their enchanting ballets and breathtaking artistry. And can you believe it, the London crowd went wild for their performances! It’s like witnessing history in the making. I bet those tutus were swoon-worthy!
It was in this era that the tutu started to move towards its most familiar form, becoming lighter and more fluid. The Parisian style inspired the London scene, pushing for a move toward those daring, shorter styles. The result? Well, my dear lovelies, we can't deny the beauty of those whimsical twirling ballerinas showcasing their graceful movements on the stage, looking ethereal in their fabulous tutus.
Speaking of tutus, can you imagine not having a wardrobe full of them? I mean, how can you possibly live a full and vibrant life without a few lovely pink tutus? It just wouldn't be complete, would it? That's what my pink tutu wardrobe teaches me, darlings. And believe me, these stunning pieces come in all shades, fabrics, and sizes! A perfect tutu is essential to complete any ballerina's look. And to be honest, who wouldn't want to be a ballerina in a lovely tutu?
My pink tutu even found a home for the day, my lovely, among these magnificent London ladies! So of course, I grabbed my beloved pink tutu from the suitcase I magically pulled out of the train with my magic train wand. It's just the way I live my life! After a trip to the local fabric store for some exquisite embellishments, we headed to the theater for a grand night out. Now that is what I call a lovely day out!
If you're in London, make sure to head down to the Royal Opera House, which has stood proudly on Covent Garden since 1858, as that's where you'll catch some fantastic performances, my dears! That grand opening was a huge event, you can bet it's on the itinerary when I visit London again, so stay tuned! I have some fab tips about how to wear a pink tutu in an opera house on my list of things to do - they go with practically everything! I’ll tell you more on my next blog!
In the meantime, don’t forget to browse my website for pink tutus of all kinds, darling, for yourself and all the girls in your family! We'll help you find your perfect ballerina look. After all, the tutu is a symbol of dance, freedom, and grace. It's a way to express ourselves and connect with a long-lasting tradition, right here, right now. So come on, join me in celebrating the magic of tutus! Let's bring back the elegance and wonder of this fantastic garment, darlings!
Now, off to buy some tea, scones and to watch a delightful play in a new London theatre! Oh, what a delightful day, even for someone as fabulous as myself!
Until next time, keep those tutus twirling!
XOXO,
Emma
