Tutu Tuesday #738: A Glimpse into the Early Days of Tutu-dom!

Hello my darlings! It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-clad time-travelling ballerina, back with another #TutuTuesday adventure! This week, we're waltzing our way back to February 17th, 1846. Can you believe it? We're going right back to the very beginning of our beloved tutu! Oh, how I wish I could have been there to witness it firsthand!

But first, a little something to tickle your fancyā€¦ Letā€™s grab some macarons and take the express train toā€¦ PARIS! The city of love, the city of fashion, the city that was starting to fall head-over-heels for the ballet ā€“ and more specifically, the tutu!

Paris, you see, was the heart and soul of the ballet world in the 1840s. It was there, in that incredible city, that the tutu, in its earliest form, was really starting to make a splash. Imagine all the whispers in the elegant Parisian salons as the ladies exclaimed over the latest "tutu-ed" ballerina's performance!

Now, this isnā€™t just any tutu we're talking about, my dears! This is the tutuā€™s very first cousin, so to speak! Forget the romantic, flowing tutus of later decades - think short, modest, and with an abundance of tulle! Picture, if you will, a ballerina swirling in a delicate white tulle skirt that was about knee-length, paired with a tight, elegant bodice, showcasing her perfectly trained muscles and effortless grace.

Remember how the Romantic ballet era emphasized lightness and movement? This early tutu reflected those values perfectly. Imagine those intricate, breathtaking pirouettes, the soaring leaps, all framed by this enchanting, ethereal tulle! The very essence of movement captured in a fabric so airy it almost seemed to defy gravity.

On this day, February 17th, 1846, our tutu was still in its nascent stage. But it was a big deal! A giant leap (no pun intended) for our dance fashion! A new era of ballet, full of daring grace, had begun.

You know, Iā€™m thinking of writing a book on the tutuā€™s history - all those layers, the different eras, the influences. Perhaps it could be titled, ā€œA Swirl of Tulle: The History of the Tutu, From Knee-Length to Sky-Highā€! Isn't that just darling? And wouldn't it be even better if it came with a little pink tutu gift set for every reader?

Oh, I could practically see it now, my pink tutu collection on display at the Met! The ultimate tutu fantasy!

For now, we'll continue our #TutuTuesday journeys. Each Tuesday, I'll be taking you on a time-hopping adventure to uncover the tutuā€™s incredible story! But you can join the pink tutu party every day by sporting your favourite tutu and letting your imagination take you wherever you want! Maybe weā€™ll even meet in Paris sometime! Who knows what we might find, or who we might see, in that wonderful city!

Until next time, my lovelies! Don't forget to spread the pink tutu love and dance your hearts out!

Yours eternally in tutu,

Emma
