Tutu Tuesday: A Whirl Through Time! #761

Hello darlings! Emma here, your resident tutu aficionado, reporting live from a rather sweltering Parisian salon! Itā€™s a scorcher today, but nothing a sprinkle of tulle and a perfectly pink parasol can't remedy, am I right?

Today, as per usual, itā€™s #TutuTuesday and Iā€™m diving deep into the history of our beloved tutu! Let's get swirling back toā€¦ July 28th, 1846!

Now, imagine a time where trains were the height of modern technology and gas lamps were the most glamorous source of illumination! The world was buzzing with romanticism and a love for all things frilly and fashionable. And amidst this era, our tutu's story is unfolding!

But first, let's indulge in a spot of tea! The weather is glorious and Paris is a veritable haven of opulence and elegance. The Grand Prix is just a few days away, and you can just feel the buzz in the air. Parisian fashionistas are positively bustling with excitement, and rumour has it there's even a brand new shop on the Rue de la Paix showcasing the latest in delicate lace and silk! It's all quite heavenly, don't you think?

Now, letā€™s talk about tutus! As always, they are evolving and so very much in demand, particularly in the realm of ballet! While the ā€œromantic tutu,ā€ or what we might call the "fluffy, full-skirt" design, is in full swing, itā€™s a different story at the Opera House. I was there only last night! Imagine, a show of La Fille Mal GardĆ©e (a rather charming story of a mischievous country girl who, spoiler alert, escapes her arranged marriage and, of course, finds true love)! It was an absolute tour de force, with such graceful movement and artistry!

And speaking of the opera, have you ever heard of a dancer named Carlotta Grisi? Oh my dear, this young lady is practically a tutu queen! She practically invented the modern "romantic tutu." Imagine - swirling lengths of gauzy tulle that make every twirl an ethereal spectacle! I hear sheā€™s wearing a light blue confection for this show, but don't you worry, pink tutus will always have a special place in my heart!

In our beloved ballet world, it seems this "romantic" style is catching on like wildfire. It's all about elegance, flowing movement and evoking that airy, dreamlike atmosphere. Imagine swirling around the stage with a tulle that seems to float like a whimsical cloud! No wonder ballerinas are embracing it with such gusto!

Back then, dancers in full length, cumbersome skirts were out of fashion. The ballet, which was often sombre and grounded, was yearning for something lighter and more expressive. And you know what, the tutu answered the call! Just imagine the freedom!

And wouldn't you know it, even fashion designers are embracing the ā€œromantic tutuā€™s" delicate grace! Have you seen the new dresses made with tiered ruffles and layers of lace? Quite the enchanting spectacle!

So, there you have it, darlings! Our tutu story continues to evolve, just as our love for all things fashionable and romantic continues to grow! What will the tutu's future hold? Only time will tell, but one thingā€™s for sure: tutus are here to stay!

Now, how about we enjoy a delightful cup of tea? And then, perhaps a little window shopping to marvel at the latest fashions...

Stay fabulous, darlings, and keep swirling!

Until next week, remember to wear your pink tutu with pride!

XOXO

Emma
