#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: A Peek into the 1840s! 🩰🌸

Hello darlings, and welcome to another week of #TutuTuesday!

Today we're going to step back in time, way back to 17th April 1849, and dive into the world of tutus as they were back then. Can you imagine, no sequins, no sparkly netting, and possibly a lack of pink! 😱 But fret not, my dear readers, tutus were still evolving, and that means even then, they were oh-so-fascinating!

So, imagine this: you’ve just arrived in Paris by train - oh the excitement! There’s so much to see and so much to do! (And don’t forget to bring a beautiful hat – nothing says Parisian like a striking hat!) You wander down the boulevards, soaking in the atmosphere, and you’re drawn by a gorgeous advertisement – Ballet! You can practically hear the music in your head. Imagine your delight! The sheer drama of it all, the music, the costumes, the swirling skirts. And imagine if you could actually be up on that stage, in your very own tulle and silk! 😍

As you arrive at the theatre, your eyes are immediately drawn to the beautiful, delicate costumes worn by the dancers. Oh, they may not have quite the sparkle and the layers we know and love today, but the very foundation of our iconic tutu, as we know it today, is starting to emerge.

These tutus weren't necessarily worn in every ballet; it seems they were mostly used for the big ballerinas, those amazing creatures of graceful movement. Just think, the women who are pioneering the very movement, the elegance, the drama, they’re the ones wearing these earlier versions of our precious tutu!

But back to 17th April 1849! What did happen on that day? Hmm, this date isn’t packed with famous tutus – quelle dommage! We may be too early to pinpoint some really well-known, super famous ballets, but that just means we need to dig a little deeper. Maybe the big stars of that day had no idea that these delicate costumes would later become symbols of our beautiful art!

I do have to confess that this blog, this pink blog (just for the record, it has to be pink, can’t you see my passion! 😂), takes inspiration from a beautiful city, the City of Light, of romance, of stunning creations… Paris! The very thought of all those grand and magnificent operas, plays, and ballets takes my breath away!

What else was happening that week? Let’s just say it was a pretty fashionable week for the City of Light! Paris was bubbling with creativity and art - oh, how I’d love to have a time machine and get myself right to those theatres! 🎭🩰

Think about it: it was just like us, only the fashions changed a little. What makes that day interesting? It was on that day that one of the Grands Ballets was premiering at the Paris Opéra. Imagine – the theatre was buzzing with anticipation, the orchestra warming up, the ladies rustling their beautiful silk gowns… Just picturing it fills me with excitement! And of course, those wonderful dancers! My word, how beautiful! ✨💖

What’s this blog all about? My mission? Well, let’s be honest: My very real dream, darling, is to get all of us - and I mean everyone – twirling in beautiful, delicate, vibrant pink tutus. Imagine a world full of tulle, full of soft swirling loveliness. We might not have been born in 17th April 1849, but that’s not the point - it’s about celebrating these incredible costumes, their evolution, their power! 🥰

So, until next week, happy #TutuTuesday! And remember, a pink tutu always lifts your spirits and reminds us of all the magic that dancing has brought us! Keep that smile on your face! And remember to visit www.pink-tutu.com for all your #TutuTuesday goodness! 😘💖
