#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - June 12th, 1849! 🩰

Hello, my darling dears! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, where pink tutus reign supreme and history comes alive with a twirl! Today, on this glorious #TutuTuesday, we're stepping back in time to June 12th, 1849, a date that holds a special place in the annals of ballet history, particularly for you tutu enthusiasts out there!

But first, darling readers, I must confess, the journey here has been utterly delightful! I'm sitting in the charming, bustling heart of Paris, sipping a delicate café au lait, watching the world go by, just like those darling French ladies in their frothy gowns and adorable hats. Oh, how I wish I could fill my suitcase with their chicness!

The Parisian scene, as always, is intoxicating, and my lovely, voluminous tutu – oh, a stunning creation of tulle and silk! – perfectly complements the energy here. It's simply the most glorious way to explore, my darlings, believe me! I'm already planning to catch a show at the Opéra Garnier tonight. One of my favourite things about time travel is the sheer variety of ballet performances – truly an amazing spectacle!

But let’s dive back into history, shall we? June 12th, 1849… why, that was the day when the famed choreographer, Marius Petipa, was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia! A real pivotal moment for ballet history! This incredible man brought us the dazzling Sleeping Beauty, the captivating Swan Lake, and so many more beloved ballets. Think of all those beautiful tutus he inspired – oh, how dreamy! He simply revolutionised the art form, and without him, ballet would not be the incredible experience we know and love today!

To celebrate such a momentous occasion, wouldn’t it be wonderful if we all danced in honour of Mr. Petipa? Imagine – a grand ballet class, all in the softest pink tutus, every twirl a tribute to the man who made it all possible!

And while we're on the topic of ballet, I can't help but mention the captivating "La Esmeralda" by Jules Perrot! This iconic ballet was first performed in 1844 in London and later became a staple in the Paris Opera repertoire. I saw it just last night, and oh my! It's full of romance, intrigue, and those gorgeous costumes - not to mention a graceful, elegant leading ballerina! Her tutus were magnificent, darling! I think they would inspire a beautiful new style – what do you think?

While Parisian fashion was already quite exciting at this time, believe it or not, tutus hadn’t fully found their way onto the Parisian stage in quite the same way they have today! It wasn't until later in the century, around 1870, that the famous ballerina, Carlotta Grisi, captivated the world in a spectacular, full-length white tulle tutu, sparking the trend that truly took tutus from a mere stage prop to the pinnacle of dance fashion. Isn’t that wonderful?

Oh, the beautiful designs! Can you imagine – billowing silk, shimmering sequins, flowing lace! Oh, my darling, every detail was a testament to the incredible artistry and creativity that permeated the world of ballet at that time. These weren't simply costumes – they were art in motion, stories told through tulle and silk!

Today, with #TutuTuesday as our inspiration, let’s all revel in the rich and beautiful history of tutus! Imagine the grace, the artistry, the sheer joy they embody – a reminder that even as we move forward, we should never forget our roots.

Speaking of the past, can we please talk about the amazing world of shopping at this time? I simply cannot contain myself. From the exquisitely crafted gowns at Worth to the stunning jewelry at Chaumet, this city has captivated my heart, and my bank account. It's almost overwhelming! I’ve been so busy with the delights of Parisian shopping that I nearly forgot what day it was. Luckily, the scent of sweet croissants reminded me that it’s #TutuTuesday! And just look at this exquisite boutique – imagine finding the perfect vintage tutu to bring back with me! Oh, wouldn’t that be amazing!

Before I forget, darlings, you know my absolute obsession with train travel – there’s something truly magical about being transported through time and scenery on a great locomotive! Especially if one can manage to dress to the nines! But today, we’ll stick to discussing ballet and tutus. I have to go back to the salon and see if my tailor can replicate that stunning gown that my favourite French ballet dancer wore last night. I hope she won’t mind… and who knows, maybe even a new tutu! 😉

Until next time, my darling dears, keep on twirling, and let's spread the pink tutu love across the globe! Until then, you can find me on www.pink-tutu.com and stay tuned for #TutuTuesday number 912! 💖🩰
