#TutuTuesday: A Whirlwind Back to 1850! (Blog Post #985)
Hello my darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, Emma, here, ready to whisk you away on another journey through the captivating world of ballet!
This week, I've landed myself right in the heart of the year 1850, amidst the bustling heart of Paris! The city is positively abuzz with fashion, art, and yes, you guessed it, ballet! As you all know, tutus are my passion, and Paris in the mid-1800s is like a dream come true! Think swirling fabrics, intricate designs, and a truly dazzling world of dance.
A Moment in Time:
I landed here on the 12th of November, 1850, a date that holds particular significance in Parisian history. It was a Tuesday, of course - and we wouldn't be on #TutuTuesday if it weren't! On this day, a young ballet dancer named Marie Taglioni graced the stage in a performance that captivated audiences and sparked a new era of tutus!
Now, tutus at this time weren't exactly what we'd picture today! We're talking lightweight, flowing skirts - sometimes reaching right to the floor - but certainly not the structured, billowing confections of later decades. They were often paired with elegant corsets, flowing sleeves, and beautiful satin shoes, a combination designed to emphasise every graceful movement of the ballet dancers.
Fashion, Oh La La!:
Fashion was truly extravagant in this era. The French had an eye for elegance, and the dancers embraced the lavish styles with open arms. The romanticism of the time reflected in the ballet costumes: delicate, light fabrics, airy lace, and dreamy colours. There was a delicate charm and elegance that perfectly complemented the beauty of the dancing.
I've spent the day wandering through the chic boutiques and shops, taking in the latest Parisian trends. Let's just say, I might have indulged in a new pair of satin gloves and a hat that wouldn't look out of place at a royal ball! I even got to catch a glimpse of the dancers preparing for their upcoming performance at the Opéra Garnier - a stunning building of grandeur and beauty that deserves a whole blog post just for itself!
Dancing Through Time:
You see, the magic of travelling through time lies in the little moments, the tiny details that paint a picture of the past. Seeing a glimpse of the dancers in their beautifully detailed costumes, the music swirling through the grand halls, and the whispers of excitement and anticipation in the air - it's truly magical!
So, there you have it, my darlings. Another delightful adventure through the world of tutus and ballet, straight from 1850s Paris! Remember, my dears, let's keep this #TutuTuesday flame burning! Don't be afraid to embrace your inner ballerina and add a touch of pink tulle to your everyday life! You'll never regret it!
Until next week, stay pink and keep on dancing!
Yours truly,
Emma
P.S. You know what I love even more than Paris? My train journeys! Every Tuesday, after my #TutuTuesday post goes live, I hop onto the Hogwarts Express (or well, my very own magical train that whisks me through time!) and embark on a new journey. Where will I land next? That's a secret for another day, but you can bet there'll be tutus galore!
