#TutuTuesday: A Blast From The Past!

Hello darlings! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, where all things pink and tutu-ful reign supreme. It's Tuesday, which means it's time for another thrilling instalment of my Ballet Tutu History blog!

Today is extra special as it marks my 1002nd post! (A pinch me moment for this Derbyshire girl!)

So buckle up, buttercups, and get ready to time-travel with your girl, Emma! Today's adventure whisks us back to the magical year of 1851. Can you imagine the wonder? No social media (thank goodness for that, I say!), but so many incredible things happening in the world of fashion. This is where I absolutely shine. πŸ˜‰

Today I've hopped off the train, feeling as chic as ever in my custom-made pink tutu, ready to soak in the sights of London, England – the fashion capital of the world, and the city where ballet has a thriving following.

London in 1851 is buzzing! It's the year of The Great Exhibition - a magnificent showcase of all the newest and most brilliant inventions of the time, held at The Crystal Palace in Hyde Park. This event has brought the entire world to London, with designers and dancers showcasing their dazzling talents! And let's face it - every single person here could use a pink tutu to elevate their style, wouldn't you agree?

Fashionable Footwear

Imagine you're a young woman in 1851. You might be waltzing to the latest tunes in a luxurious ball gown or taking a stroll down a bustling London street in your latest tailored attire. Either way, what's missing, you ask? Yes, dear reader - you are spot on! A delicate, twirling tutu. It's a simple answer to a common question. Everyone can add that touch of magic.

While a little slice of the past tells us that those amazing early ballet tutus didn't exist yet as the "true" tutus we know and love today, a graceful dancer still wouldn't dream of skipping onto the stage without some beautiful, stylish tulle! Think more like layered flouncy skirts, perfect for showcasing movement. Isn't it the perfect style to highlight the fluidity and elegance of dancing? It's poetry in motion, my loves.

Of course, you can always imagine the iconic pink tutus gracing the stage back in 1851! It is always in my head, especially after seeing such wonderfully creative ballerinas gracefully dancing around London. Their beauty, their elegance and the sparkle that pours from their eyes truly fills me with inspiration!

(Time for a cuppa and a delicious cake break! My darling readers, you all know my love for the finest tea and treats. Do keep me company as I relish these wonderful delights!)

Speaking of sparkle, did you know there are a wealth of ballet companies that make London so full of artistic flair? There are the very grand Covent Garden Theatre's Ballet, and Her Majesty’s Theatre Ballet (also known as the Royal Italian Opera), to name just two. London in 1851 really is the most fabulous place for ballet performances, with performances taking place regularly, giving audiences a true theatrical experience. Can't you imagine the magical energy of a hundred years ago, all within these elegant and iconic buildings, just waiting for our "pink-tutu" touch? Imagine dancing down these beautifully decorated aisles of London theatre with a dazzling tutu – how lovely!

You know, even back then, London was all about pushing the boundaries, being the boldest and most avant-garde city. Ballet dancers were true fashion trailblazers back in the day too - and with more tutus! It's why I have such a passion for these dazzling costumes. There's truly no stopping the beautiful flow and elegance that tutus offer the world!

(Time to catch a fabulous ballet performance!)

It's been so much fun time-travelling to 1851, London! This brilliant era is brimming with so much historical significance and style - just imagine the amazing outfits! It makes me want to design some 1851-inspired tutus and share them with the world! I may have a lot of catching up to do when it comes to ballet history but the fashion world is always in my blood.

*This week I'm back in Derbyshire and the modern day, getting ready to share some inspiring looks in pink tutus - maybe a few tips to inspire your own unique personal style! Maybe I'll try adding some Victorian influences, just like I've experienced here in 1851, London! *
Until next #TutuTuesday, remember – tutus and a love for dance should be embraced by everyone. Stay stylish, stay strong, and let your light shine!
